For those of you accross the pond...this can't be good.
Big Brother could slow British motorcycles down, track routes Posted Jan 15th 2007 3:31AM by Darren Murph Filed under: Transportation, Wireless Most would argue that the UK certainly doesn't need one more piece of surveillance equipment watching its citizens, but regardless of the naysayers, it just might be getting another anyway. The latest implementation of Big Brother in our everyday lives comes courtesy of the Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), which are devices (presumably GPS-based) that will purportedly track motorcyclists' speeds and throttle things down if they attempt to break the posted speed limit(s). Moreover, the ISA could even be used to track bikers' journeys, and if things "prove successful," could eventually find its way into cars and other vehicles (like Segways beefed-up wheelchairs) in a reported attempt to "drastically cut the death toll on the country's roads." As expected, bikers and bike sellers are less than enthused about the new device, as they expect customers will be the ones footing the bill for the homing beacons and that sales could drop when folks realize they can't get a little footloose every now and then. While there's no hard dates on when (or if) these trackers / speed-controllers would hit motorcycles in the UK, the ISA has already undergone testing at the Motorcycle Industry Research Association (MIRA), so those looking to kick up a little two-wheeled dust best get a move on before the eyes in the sky put the clamps on your fun.

Don't worry, what science can create, science can defeat. Surround this ISA POS with a Faraday cage and it won't be able to transmit. Basically, it's an envelope or cage made of copper screen(grounded). A little experimenting with copper screen and a cell phone should reveal how much is necessary. The best thing about Big Brother is his blind spots.

It figures they'd pick on the bikers first bunch a hooligans they are.
Are there a lot of "no cage involed" bike crashes in the UK?

So, when you are passing a great arsed lorry and need a few extra MPH, the crown will see to it that you die "for queen and country"?

That's about the scale of it!
I believe that the idea for these originated in the EU (another reason for me to dislike it, not that I need another reason!) and they are being opposed by MAG (similar to ABATE) all the way. There is apparently one (unelected) politician who has floated the idea of an outright ban on bikes so that they can move even closer to their target of no road casualties!!
Has no-one told these people that life should have a bit of danger?

Don't know the figures for this particular catagory, but when they released the overall traffic figures, it was found that speed was a factor in only 15% of cases. What they didn't say until pressed was that "over the limit" speeding occured in only 5%, the other 10% was still within the speed limit, but not appropriate for the conditions!
They have also just announced that the annual drink driving arrests for the holiday period (Christmas & New Year) has risen dramatically - don't suppose it has anything to do with the rise in speed cameras being matched with a reduction in traffic cops, so more people think they can get away with it?

If we need any futher proof that the Brits and Americans are really one people I think this is it. Big Brother suggests another device to spy on us and the first thing we do is scream bloody murder. The second thing is to find ways to defeat it
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Dateline January 17th, 2024
Motorcyclist WINSTON SMITH VI yesterday received the largest judgement ever in U.S.Court history at $2.7B against the U.S.Government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Mr.Smith had sued the NHTSA after his 2022 accident, in which while attempting to pass a slow moving electric-powered 18-wheeled truck out in the middle of nowhere on the reburbished historic Route 66 in Arizona, the british-derived Big Brother Control System stationed in Washington D.C. took control of his chinese-manufactured Harley-Davidson 2900cc Lazy-Bob motorcycle after he had started his attempt to pass the slower moving vehicle, resulting in a head-on crash with an on-coming hydrogen-powered car.
Mr.Smith's miraculous survival of this accident, which he kept referring to as "Hindenburg II" in court, and his subsequent $350M hospital and doctor bills, due to the fact that the United States still, even in the year 2024, has NO national healthcare system OR tort reform, AND along with the idea that he felt "not all the bugs had been worked out" in the government's "Highway Control System", were said to be the driving force in his litigation. A cryogenically frozen GLORIA ALRED was thawed and served as his counsel.
The only response to the Court's decision by co-lead attorneys, twin-sisters JENNA and BARBARA BUSH representing the Government was, "Well...back to the old drawin' board, we guess!"
