I almost had this problem. I have the chrome caliper covers and they prevent a standard socket-mounted hex bit from seating completely in the head of the pin. I bought new pins and a longer socket-mounted hex bit.
Removal is the standard procedure - try everything you can think of then heat, beat, chisel, drill......
