Just changed insurance company's to make a long story short.

same bike same coverage same driver;

Progressive $344 for 12 month policy.
Gieco $140 for 12 month policy.

But I failed the cave man test. Could not do it on line, one question I did not understand so had to call em.

No one could touch Geicos price for me neither. Same price as yours. My (wife and I and 2 SUV's) auto insurance is $800 less a year as well.

I found them to be high and not at all good to deal with.
dropped them quick and went shopping elsewhere.

Have you ever met an insurance company that does like to pay?

I'm sure you can find somone who has had a bad experience with every company out there.

Personnally I dont know anyone who has been burned by gieco but then again, I dont know anyone who has been burned by progressive either.

All I do know is that every time I mention how much I was paying for one bike. the responce was "man thats high".

Guess I'll have to wait and see, hopefully I wont need a payout anyway.

State Farm kicked Geico's tail, so I switched. As for Progressive, I hate their commercials, their attitude, and the owner's political leanings are quite extreme and I wont help him finance his views.

I pay $119 a year at GEICO. Haven't had to use them on the bike, but when I hit a deer in 2000 with my VW they ponied up the bux really quick. No muss, no fuss.

Keep an eye out this year for AIG bike insurance, the rep keeps telling me its coming, its cheap, and its awesome. But he rides a VTX and had never heard of Triumph so what the hell does he know. Geico and the rest are fighting right now for market share. Auto insurance is in a decidedly soft market phase, so this might help policy holders. But let me tell ya its not good for agents.
Most all of big companies are credit scoring now too, so it has become even harder to compare.

My progressive bill is up to 350 a year for 2 bikes and I got 3200 out of them last year when I went down.

Never had a problem with Geico. Every time I buy a vehicle, I call the 800 number, the short conversation ends with "OK, you're covered". Anytime, 24 hours a day. No problems with claims, they have local claims office. Don't like their lizard or caveman ad campaigns, though.

I recently did an online quote with progressive just for a reality check comparing to GEICO.

They are or at least seem to be WAY HIGH.

Also progressive seem to have raised their rates on bikes. I don't do a whole lot of bike quotes this time of year. But the last one seemed way higher than normal.
This is good to know. If in fact they did raise their rates, I have to get a new company before spring.

i had just the opposite experience. perfect record with gieco for about 8 years and they were higher on both bike and car insurance. i saved about $600 / year (~35%) going with progressive on the bike and I can't remember who (is well-known company, though) on the cars. i think it did help using a single agent for house/cars/bike, though. this thread is making me tempted to review my rates, though.

So far, good experience with Progressive. I have yet to transfer my insurance from SC to CT on the bike, but it is $28/month in SC for full coverage and I've had 2 claims (both no fault on my part, but one was a no-insurance cager that cost Progressive over $9000 (bike rebuild and medical) on one claim and about $600-700 on the second, and my rates still went down. Oh, and their service was very prompt and friendly! As for car insurance, their prices were within a couple bucks of Geicos (and both were $1000 less than Nationwide(spit!) whom I HAD been with for 11 years at that point) so Progressive got the nod. I like the E-surnace commercials and rates, but have read bad things about their customer service and billing practices. Think you'll do fine with either.

The formulas that Ins. Companys use to give rates must be real touchy. It is amazing the differences. It is different for everyone everywhere, thats for sure.
I called Farmers to tell them Geico beat their price by $800 a year, they said they were already giving me the best rate. I cancelled my policy and moved to Geico, then a week later Farmers sent me a new plan that was $600 less than the original. I told them too late, you had your chance. (I hope I didn't burn a bridge, but oh well.) They never cease to amaze me. Go figure.

Like I said the national companies are in a price war right now. My advice find a local independant agent that you like and trust. They will try to get you the lowest rate while giving you the best service. And look at the whole picture car/house/bike etc.
State Farm beats me on auto sometimes but then I whoop them on the same house.

When I bought my bike no one could touch Geico's rate ~~ so I went with Geico. This fall I took a tumble and filed a claim. Geico was a little slow in handling it ~~ but I was in no condition to ride. Eventually it was all taken care of. My question ~~ what will they do to my rate when it is time to renew this spring?

Since I'm an old geezer and belong to AARP, and also based on a neighbor's recommendation, I saved about $150 per year using AARP, which I think is through Foremost Insurance. Did have American Family.

Would anyone know of or be able to suggest any company other than Primum for bike insurance in Nova Scotia Canada?
Ok with Primmum but there doesn't seem to be any others selling it in NS.

You mean you don't want to help Mr Lewis promote paradise on Earth? I got a much better policy through American Family Insurance. About $200 a year for full coverage on the bike.

Yeah, a friend recommended American Family (she lives in Champaign, IL), but they aren't available here in CT, so I had to choose between Geico and Progressive (everyone else was smoking opium!)

I have everything I own insured via State Farm. I requested a quote for MC insurance and it was nearly double what my Progressive policy was. I've stayed with Progressive ever since, occassionally checking other sources - No one has beaten them yet. I can't get a handle on how these companies do their quoting, but it surely isn't uniform...

I used the geico site to get some quotes - They can save me almost $200/yr on my bike, but the car is about $200 more. Looks like I may be changing the bike insurance soon.

Geico being a "discount" insurance company, I was always afraid that if i had an accident they would be a pain to deal with, but when I got smeared by an uninsured driver last summer, (speedmaster totaled, both ankles broken, 2 months in a wheelchair) they were suprisingly easy to deal with. They immediately paid for my bike, gave me money to replace my jeans, boots (cut off by the EMT's) and ipod (no, I was not listening to it while riding.) Soon after, they gave me my $25,000 on my uninsured motorist policy. My only problem has been my work health ins., who gets the first crack at the 25K th pay for my medical bills. They haven't decided how much they want of it.

Long story short: Geico good.

Just read this, and checked Geico quote and bought online. Price was half of what I pay Progressive for the same coverage. Got it for $186 per year, with high coverages.

Well I'm paying about $700 per year just for the bike (full coverage 100,000/300,00 liability). Also five cages (Mine, my wifes and three kids, though the kids pay what they can, they're in college though so not much dough).
I won't even talk about the total yearly premiums .
Vegas is one of the most expensive insurance areas in the country though.
I use State Farm. Their premiums beat most, claims adjustment is quick and fair, plus I like having an agent and claims adjusters that I go to in town. I've had the same agent for about fifteen years and she is very good. Always available and happy to save me money.

This is where your insurance carriers and agents find your claim and loss histories to determine part of your overall risk profile, and subsequent premium -- the good old 'Clue' database:

http://www.choicetrust.com/servlet/com.kx.cs.servlets.CsServlet?channel=welcome&subchannel=clue

I believe you can still run one query on yourself for free.

We have three auto claims in our family profile, but none of them mine. I wonder why?

Oh - yeah I remember - I pay the premium.

I suspect it may have something to do with location, age, and other details. My 2 bikes are full covered for 12 months at an even $150 a year w/Progressive in northern VA. Of course I'm old as dirt, been riding since Christ was a corporal, the bikes are garaged, been an AMA member since my racing days in the 70's, went through an early rider safety course in 84, and Progressive doesn't know what a 72 Yamaha R5 can really do. Both cars and house are with State Farm, who told me they'd be too expensive for bikes and that I should shop around. Pretty decent of them I think.

I got almost the same rate with Progressive here in Oklahoma. $167 a year for full coverage. Had the same policy since July 2005 with no increases but no claims either.

I missed 2 months work with a back injury and my insurance agent seemed to be representing the woman that hit me not me that got hit...I have never been a person that trusts lawyers but you can bet your a$$ one will be involved if I get hit again...They all have great rates till you make a claim

I wonder if they'd notice if you changed just the last one or two digits? If that slight and non-coded change bothers the log in, they may already have your SS.

Geico pays quick, and on the spot. My dealings with them over the years being in the car business has always left me impressed with them as a company.

They mean business. Show up quickly to write estimates. Don't bicker with the shop's estimate as long as within reason, and handle supplemental claims promptly and without hassle. And when they come out to write an estimate, they leave behind a check for the repairs.

I don't deal much with insurance companies in the service department, other than the occassional flooded car or broken door glass. But when Geico has been involved, it is my experience that they are all about taking care of the customer, (and the repair facility), and putting the incident in the rear view mirror.

Now I need to compare rates, myself.
