Experimented with snorkle removal from my Uni air filter and found the remains of a 13 stripped ground squirrel picnic in my filter! Shocked and appaled I cleaned the nuts and droppings from the filter, replaced the snorkel and went for a January Blue Ridge Parkway ride, yes, it was great. Locked her up in the garage, went back the next day to 'calibrate' and clean and found a stash of 5 NUTS in my unifilter again, with the snorkels in place this time. Preparing physical and chemical deterents, this is war!

Squirrels have gone from cute and fuzzy to the ENEMY.
They chewewd their way into my attic, and caused a bunch of mischief. I now think they are furry devil-spawn

Squirrels, cute little furry things who scurry up trees. I love sitting in the garden at my mother-in-laws house watching the squirrels play.

Distructive little buggers though. My sympathy to anyone who has them in the attic/loft. They can be a nighmare. And as for sneeking into your snorkels, cheeky little buggers

Sorry!

I once saw a squirrel get hit by a car. With Mrs RodYork on the back of the bike, I interpreted the digs in the ribs to mean turn around. Wearing bike gloves I was able to pick up the fluffy injured creature and pop it safely into my pannier and we went home, to tend to it.

We used to keep ferrets and so had a cage and what I thought was an understanding of these creatures. We left the injured animal safely in a cage with water etc.

The following day- I arose bright eyed to see the squirrel was bushy tailed and looking normal, save a bit of road rash to his paws. I approached him from behind and what ever possesed me to put my thumb near his mouth- to this day I dont know!...he turned his head completely around ( and inside out) and bit through the nail of my thumb and anchored his varmin teeth into my thumb bone- I was leaping around the garage with a squirrel on the end of my thumb and my dog outside- going berzerk.

The suirrel released me and I immediately released him into the wild- seeing he was back to health!

I only later found out you are supposed to despatch them as they are vermin.

whenever I tell this story it reminds me of national lampoons christmas vacation, where the squirrel jumps out of the tree!

happy days!

My office mate is from Philly. Grew up in the city and never really paid much attention to the wildlife when she moved to the suburbs I guess... one day during a smoke break she came flying back into the office, slamming the door, hopping to her desk on tiptoes doing the heebeejeebee shake, all while making halloween noises at the back of her throat.

When she was safely behind 2 doors and able to catch her breath she blurted that she'd seen a rat out there.. .one like she'd never seen before.

I was skeptical.... city girl must have seen some big rats... and we just don't have them here at the office that I'm aware of. I let it pass and didn't ask for many details. Never thought of it until a week or so later when I followed her out for a cigar during some nice weather.

Halfway through her smoke she screeched... "There he is" and vanished back through the door before her butt hit the ground. Slowly... carefully I turned, ready to jump and stomp the monster if it was too close.

Yep.

It was a chipmunk. She still doesn't want to believe it isn't a rat of some sort. Glad he hasn't decided to hide a stash in my ride.

Last spring I purchased just such a squirl control devise.
Crossman pump with scope.I have 4 comfirmed kills. Only 4 because I follow strict rules of engagement.I shoot only under any of following conditions.

1. Vermin is on bird feeder.
2. Vermin is on deck.
3. Vermin is on shed.
4. Vermin is on house.

My Husky loves squirrels
Tastes like chicken
Unfortunately she likes cats the same way and that really pisses off the neighbor. Keeps the rodentia to a minimum though

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

My dogs won't go near my bike anymore since last Spring's start-up. They were bombarded by dog kibble that the little pests had stored in the pipes. Like buckshot coming out of that pipe.

I cut my eye teeth as a lad hunting grey squirrels. Never shot many, but I became quite proficient at taking naps leaned up against an oak tree in the October sunshine. A skill I am still able to use on occassion .

Great story reverend .

Angus, You might consider retrofitting your garage, I believe the term is "chip sealing". Rodent control, or as we call it "vertebrate pest mgmt" is one of my hats. Lots of tips less damaging than a 16 ga are available on-line. Good luck.

I would be willing to rent "shop cat" out for a week or 2. I g-tee every critter there will be killed in a couple of days. She will even leave them on the porch to show off her handy work.

we should do this every weekend!

The critters ate the Nutella off the pretzels without setting the trap off and left the pretzels untouched. Evidence of a significant party inside the Have-a-Heart, live capture trap. One more chance to surrender to kibble and bits with Nutella coatings and a more sensitive trigger....... before the weapons of mass destruction and chemical warfare are deployed.

Did you set up the trap with one door closed? What to do should you catch them in the live trap? Take them to the mall and release?

Did that with a snake once. Placed it in the fountain outside the Piccadilly cafeteria. Learned real quick about cold blooded creatures as the snake just froze up.

Had a cat once that used to catch squirrels.

funny thing was if he caught mice, birds, moles he'd leave the whole thing on the front step.

But if he got a squirrel we'd only find the tail, head and
innerds.

I changed the air filter on the van two weeks ago and the whole air box was filled with acorns. I got my shop vac out and started to suck them up and then whoosh out shot the "rat bast***" mouse his little house and all.

Like the sick bast*** I I'm I put him under a glass jar with a brick on top of it and let my cat go nuts for about an half hour before I gave the son of bi*** three steps to door before I let Zippy loose it never made it to the threshold before Zippy had it and dispatched it in one bite.

That air box holds a thousand dollar central computer control for the car and luckly he did not chew the wires yet.

I like the sticky traps as you can torrment the little sucker's for awhile.

Yeah, Rodents getting love. Makes me want to puke. However, when rodents damage our property they get our attention. It may not be love, but it sure feels good when we act on it! At least squirrels don't carry as many bugs as rats. Stop feeding them and they usually go away. Websites are devoted to rodent control. Check em out for some laughs and good stories. The Rat Xchange is one such site. I joined and had some fun for a while, that is until, I kilt all me rats.
