The auxiliary power socket supplied by Triumph has dedicated leads for this purpose.
They should be situated under the tank and are taped to the loom ready for easy installation of the socket which fits in the large dia hole through the top engine mount.

I wouldn't snip the plug off - I was going to say it might be for the rev counter accessory but obviously you already have that on the Speedy.

I'm not sure what it's for but I'd remove the tank and use that bit of wiring for the auxiliary plug you want to fit.
