WooooooooooHHHooooo!! I am still sick and on the mend............but I can barely keep the smile off of my face..........after posting pics I think I'll go and sit on it again. *BS* Our ride up there this past weekend was .........well very tiring. Back Roads Triumph is indeed "Back Roads". All in all the guys were great at the shop and the America is just awesome. Rich took it for a test ride. He said I am going to love it...........it rides so smooth, handles so easy, turns, etc. I was slightly jealous when he got to ride it without me. But I was happy when he got back. It looks so hot..........even with Rich on it *wink*. My hubby being Mr. Anal clean man..........1st thing we just had to do when we unloaded it was wash and wax it. Then we stripped off the pillion pad and back pegs. If you are used to loud bikes..........and I am..........The Triumphs are VERY quiet. We researched pipes and removing the baffles even before we got the bike. In the end they had these perfect for me "Fish Tail" pipes for just $150. for both. So we got those too. We can't put them on until the bike is broke in and one other thing that I just can't think of right now. But while I was at the grocery store yesterday. Rich just couldn't stand it and had to try the Fish Tails on the Triumph. Man...........do they look good. And LOUD...........WOW! But now he has to take them off and put the originals back on. I can wait. What I can't wait for is the class (10 days!) and then lots of practice and bonding time with my new baby. Thanks for all of your support and information! ~*~ Painted Lady

**** ps..........when I feel better and am not sick and running on 3 hrs. sleep ......I will post a better pic of me on the bike............I felt almost hungover when we took the pics yesterday. ****

Nice PL! You'll love this bike. It's great to learn on. I almost bought that color combo too. Learn a lot in the MSF course, it's priceless.

I see you have your hubby well trained!
Just take it easy, pay attention and you're do well with the course..
Dont' worry, they have this MSF stuff down to a science..It'll seem like they're trying to cram too much into your head, but it all works out.. no problem.
fish tails look splendifericious! <G>
congrats!

It looks really nice, especially with the fishtails! As long as the jetting is seen to, there is no real reason to not put them on now. (As long as you can resist the temptation to rev the engine too much too soon!)I put my Epco pipes on and changed the carburettor jets at around 50 miles with no ill effects.

Looks great, nice color choice Get those AIs removed ASAP and you may avoid the problems with the pipes blueing. Seems once they blue, it's hard to get them back to shiny stainless. Good luck, did you get the motorcycle temporary license yet? later, Tom.

Those are the Air Injection tubes. They make the bike run lean and tend to cause blueing of the pipes for about 8-12" from the exhaust port. It is a very easy modification, I'm sure your husband could do, and inexpensive. Just look in the Tech Vault, How too's, or just do a search on it. Most folks recently have done it first thing, some of the rest of us have very blue pipes having not found this site early on.... The license I was refering to is the temp motorcycle learner from the state...just take the written exam, and you can legally ride for practice until the safety course is completed. Now about coming down to the rally......
later, Tom.

Wait! I hate to be contrary, but this is a little misleading. The air injection doesn't really affect how the bike runs to any important degree. It doesn't make it run lean. The AI system injects air into the exhaust area, downstream from the exhaust valve, causing any unburned gases to reignite after they have left the combustion cylinder. The extra dose of oxygen causes any unburned gases to reignite as they enter the header pipes. The heat from these burning gases is what causes the pipes to turn blue. Removing the AI keeps your chrome pipes from bluing, but it also slightly increases the amount of unburned hydrocarbons coming from your tailpipe.
The AI is there only to help Triumph meet EPA regulations. It's illegal for the dealer to remove the AI, but some dealers do it anyway. Most owners pull it off themselves unless they have to meet some strict emissions tests.
There was some discussion long ago on the old board about putting a second spark plug in the AI hole, until we discovered that hole does not enter the combustion chamber.
Regards,
Cody

I rode with a temporary license until I took the MSF course and got my full license. (Minnesota) The temp license had restrictions: - Helmet required - Ride only during daylight hours - Stay off Interstate highways - No passengers

They're all saying she, but don't believe it. You'll know when you ride it whether it's female or not. It's typical to assume it's female, but you'll know. My new one is definately male. Too bloody minded to be anything but... The 03 - definately female - she has too much to say!!!
But a pretty bike. Take it easy on the MSF and I hope you are ok on it, so you can ride your lovely new bike!

Very nice Donna I personnally think the America looks much better set up as a solo ride.Hope to do that with mine somday but need to get the wife on her own two wheels first.
I notice in one of your pictures wet spots under the bike, Is that from a fresh wash for the camera or tears of joy?

Donna, That scooter is absotively, posilutely gawjous! Sometimes, after 5 years, I still just sit and look at mine. My bride of 32 years refers to her as "your other wife" . Can't wait for you and Rich to get to know the folks here, and be sure to tell him his bike is welcome in this crowd. As for you being sick, let me tell you about colloidal silver. We've used it daily for 6 years and we just don't get sick. I make my own, so send me a PM or email me and I'll tell you how to make it. You can get it at health food stores, but it's expensive. Here's some info: Colloidal Silver Info Site Enjoy Your New Ride, Dennis

Well Donna, After lookin' at that picture of you sitting on that beautiful new bike o' yours, I WAS going to say that it's a nice lookin' bike and all, but NOT as nice as that beautiful smile of your's. But THEN, I saw the NEXT picture of which I assume is of your husband, and thought to myself...Hey Dummy, you better NOT say that! Look at the friggin' ARMS on that dude. If he get's the idea that I'm hittin' on ya, I could be in for some serious hurt here!!! Enjoy your new ride. She looks GREAT!(and so does that smile o' your's) Cheers, Dwight

Hey Donna, Definately a beautiful bike. I had to wait for 6 months after I got mine before I was able to take the MSF course, and then ride alone. It's worth the wait. I have that perpetual smile on my face too, still is there after 2 1/2 years. My husband has pretty much talked me into getting new pipes for mine too. Yeah, yeah, I was a bit slow on agreeing to loud pipes, but it's getting to the point that I want to be able to hear my bike too. Enjoy the ride. AmyLee

Really sweet pipes! If ever I get another tba, those are the ticket. Did you have to buy the brackets too? Would they bolt up to the hanger if still in place? (I understand you are setting it up for solo riding. ) Heck, this may be a vault submission or at least a reference in the exhaust section.
Not too often a member's ride is photographed sans tag! Get well soon.

They gave us the brackets with the pipes. As for setting them up...hubby did it so I am not sure. He did say it was easy. I am excited I just rolled my bike out in the drive and started it up! Yay! Welllllll..............it's a start. *wink* I got my MSF packet in the mail and it inspired me to do more that just go sit on my bike. So I backed it out of the garage..........tricky with our drive declining out of the garage. I did good remembering how to start it. I just did what I read and what Rich has told me. I was a little nervous at 1st trying to figure how to start it and NOT roll backwards. Then I got it.........hold the rear break and start. Yay! So then I turned it off and then on all over again. Exciting. Seems like nothing I am sure.........but I feel accomplished. My daughter was out with me ........as support.......I thought. Man! is she tough. The hardish part was duckwalking it back up into the garage and up an over this hump/edge to get it in. But...........I did it! 7 more days til MSF!! ~*~ Painted Lady
