With the superb 70 degree temps yesterday rode to Gengras Triumph, East Hartford, CT, was not impressed. Showroom did not include any TBA. I believe there were no more Triumphs on the show room floor than at Canton Cycle. Just more room in-between. Also there was no more Triumph clothing than at Canton Cycle. I realize it should be 20 degrees and little traffic in the show room. But the big reason why Triumph pressured Canton Cycle to sell off its line was that Gengras could afford Triumph more showroom floor area. I continue to wonder how those who recently purchased a Triumph at Canton Cycle will be received. And the response to “Did you buy it here”
“I bought it at Canton Cycle and now Gengras has that dealer ship.” But to the good part rode 200 miles yesterday. It was over 55 degrees when I returned home at 8:15 pm. Now my spring fever is in full bloom. best note winter is just about 1/3 over. But I’m still kind of a wimp won’t ride if under 50 degrees it’s just too cold.

I have yet to see a Triumph dealership whose facility is worthy of the bikes it sells.

No TBA's? What about speedy's.I know I bought the last America that Canton had in stock. Could be that nothing new has come accross the pond yet. And they just have the leftovers from Canton. One of these days I'll get out there. Now a conspricy therist would think that since Gengras is a Hardly dealership. They may not carry the Triumph cruisers for fear of cutting into their high priced hog sales.

I would have to agree - at least based on what I've seen to date.

Collins Cycle in SW PA is the ONLY dealer I've been in that typically is stocked with the full model range and very often has multiple selections of each. Their accessory stock is limited - BUT, I'll say they get stuff in quite quickly.

None seem to have much in the way of 'in-stock' merchandise, i.e. clothing and accessories. The closest to having a well stocked accessory display I've seen is Triumph of Pittsburgh - However, the bike stock seems a bit skimpy.

The Erie (North East) seems like a Triumph afterthought...

Windber (sp.?)(the one near Johnstown), Pa. seems to be pretty 'bare-bones' in all respects.

I've heard nice things about the one in State College (Nittany area), but have never seen it.

The only out-of-state dealer I visited was in Sarasotta - It's a Honda / BMW dealer that has a couple of Triumphs and two or three T-shirts - I exagerate a tad, but, they have a VERY sad display...

I recall reading in a past Rat rag, that the trend was to become more of a retail outlet - sort of 'Harley-esque' for lack of a better definition - But it ain't happened 'round these parts.

Don't give up on Gengras just yet...Canton was no box of chocolates, in my mind. Twice, Canton mis-lead me on the complexity of accessory installs, overquoting actual labor time.
I called Gengras last week, looking for a carb part and the parts guy was very helpful...went out of his way, in fact.
Gengras is new and if they do with Triumph what they do with their Hardly and Auto lines, we'll be well served.

Unbelievable. It was great weather yesterday and I also got a chance to ride. I took a ride to the dealer in Branchville, CT (looks more like a used car lot) but...he has just about everybike Triumph is currently selling. He said he'll be getting the 2007 TBA's in within the month. He told me his biggest sellers are the Daytona's, Sprints, and Rockets..so he does not plan on keeping too many TBA and Speedmasters in stock. His clothing shop is fully stocked with plenty of Triumph gear. He also sells MotoGuzzi bikes. I also heard that Libby's in CT is commetted to Triumph as well.
Just my observation.

Hey Ron,
Had I known you were going to Branchville, I would've met
you there. That's where I got my '03TBA, about 20 mins away.

Libby's is committed to Triumph.

They have rearranged the floor to create a Triumph "room." you have to pass through it to get to the parts/accessories/clothing part of the shop. The line has done exceptionally well for them over the last 2 seasons.
they do not keep a lot of parts in stock; but will order anything you need. stuff usually comes in with a few days.

they have been in business for many years and have a dedicated clientelle.

There was a bike expo in Hartford this weekend. Last year Canton was there with a dismal display. Most likely Gengras was there with bikes and maybe that's why you did not see any on the showroom floor.

Gotta chime in on this one. Most Triumph dealers sell other bikes also - BMW's, Dukes, etc.. They seem to know everything about these bikes but don't seem too enthusiastic about the Triumps. They don't seem to understand that for some of us, this is the perfect bike. It's not the fastest nor the most technicly complicated but for some of us they are the bike to have. I've ridden them since 69 and miss the old dealers who loved them and knew everything about them. It's disheartening to go into a dealership that is half hearted about the product they sell while being so enthusiastic about some other bike. Sometimes I feel like I'm in bed with a woman who's in love with someone else. One good thing I can say about HD dealers is their committed and faithful. They know their bikes and their customers. Any Triumph dealer who may be reading this needs to understand the market they are missing with their half**s commitment. If your not in love, get out of the bed.

Hi Uncle Charlie!
I didn't even know I was going there. It was raining in the morning. When it cleared up, I decided to go to my office in Danbury. When I got to Danbury, I figured...what the heck...let me see what's happening at the ole Triumph dealership. So..it was spur of the moment. Next time I take out the bike (in temps over 50), I'll jot you an e-mail. Would love to meet ya.

Todd,
If you attend the Georgia Rally, go back home through Birmingham and visit Bogarts Motorsports near I-20 and I-59. They have a great Triumph area with several colors of every model, and a good selection of Triumph goodies. They had a Paul Smith Bonneville last time I was there, which may be there for years. They sell Ducati, Vespa and BMW also, but Triumph gets some love. Nearby is Barber's Motorsports Park , which is arguably the finest motorcycle track in the world. They have THE museum loaded with 1000 motorcicles from throughout history and the world, 5 stories (mezzanines) high. They keep 450-500 bikes on display, so be prepared to spend the day. Just down the road is 29 Dreams Motorcycle Park where you can rent a cabin.

Ride Safe, Dennis Triumph, it's how I live and what I ride.

I've mentioned these guys before, Manayunk Triumph

The owner does not own a car, rides a demo back and forth to work. They only sell Triumph and everyone there is a committed motorcyclist. The head wrench rides an ST, had a speed 4 before that. They always have a pot of coffee on and its a great place to hang out and bs about Triumphs. Lots of accessories and a full-line of bikes on display.

Worthy- Ridge Motorsports, Batesburg, South Carolina. Small Mom and Pop shop, loads of Triumphs (Americas and Speedies well represented last time I was there), very friendly and pretty knowledgeable. Downside- out in the middle of nowhere unless you're in Columbia, SC, so a long ride. Upside-out in the middle of nowhere, so a long ride...

Did a write up here about them after they rebuilt my bike back in '04 after my wreck, treated me GREAT!! Worth the long haul to get there!

Guys,

I agree with tmspeedy! Manayunk Triumph is extremely knowledgable and shares in are enthusiasm (spelling??). I normally interact with Buzz, however, all the guys have been great! Ask'em a question and you'll get an honest answer.

just a foot note.

Was doing some online research for a buddy of mine about URAL found out Canton Cycles (former Triumph-Victory-BMW dealer) is now
Victory-Moto Guzzi-Vespa-Ural dealer. talk about a slide downhill I do like the Guzzi's though.

Echo Cycle in Edmonton has a large area dedicated to all things Triumph. Excellent service, good prices, top shelf staff and even in the middle of winter here with the snow blowing around they have cleared out their Kawi's to make room for their sleds but did not touch the Triumph area except maybe squeeze in another bike.

07 TBA Pacific Blue and White.. stock for now! A bike has half the wheels my cage does.. but 3x the fun factor

Give Capitol Area Triumph in Highspire (Harrisburg) PA a stop sometime. Triumph and only Triumph there. I rode over there Saturday to pick out a new belt and saw they had at least 15 different Trumps on the floor not to mention lots of shirts, leathers and accessories.

Another vote for Libbys. I ordered some Triumph parts from Libbys on the 4th, and even though the parts were not in stock, they arrived at my door today. They have a decent line of in-stock assorted accessories too.

In all fairness to Gengras, the dealers may have to buy their bikes - I don't know. If they do, that's a lot of dough to have on the floor 'til Spring.
