Replaced my sealed beam with one of these. I had a Silverstar. Although a vast improvement over stock, I never liked the Silverstar beam pattern on dark, twisty roads when I was in a hurry. I opted for the 100w blue bulb. Pleased with the light output, the quality of the unit itself leaves a little to be desired. Had it in for a couple hundred miles, we'll see how long it lasts. Tried this experiment before with the Advance Discount Auto parts unit, the rim was too thick for the headlight bucket. The ebay one went in like it was made for it.

No problems blowing fuses with the 100w bulb? What is wattage of our stock bulbs?

I think stock is 65W high beam and 55W low beam. I have used the 100W high and 80W low for several years with no problems. First bulb lasted 3 years. Great light pattern and lots of light. Got a replacement one month ago in a 3 pack of bulbs from JC Whitney, part no 494492, for $22.99 for the set of 3.

What exactly is wrong with the quality that you don't like?? Based on what you know so far, would you buy another one??

I'd have to agree with you on that. The Silverstar bulbs don't push much if any light around the corners. It's a little scary to lean it over when you combine that with the glare of oncoming traffic head lights.

I know everyone doesn't drive with driving lights but the Hella Optilux 2000 series that I have put out a nice wide beam. I love driving at night with those babies.
They're the same ones that Triumph sells for the RIII.

5 years, three months and 53972 miles (Yes Vera is in the parking lot  absorbing UV rays  ) and my headlight lamp stocker is still in place. The light bar took care of issues with illumination.  Guess I'll have to carry a spare now since I mentioned it  Replaced the tailight bulb last year. Replaced one lightbar lamp. The long way? Every time I through a leg over Vera...

The Silverstar is an auto bulb, best used in pairs, not designed for leaning. The beam is just as advertised on the box; a wide rectangle just in front of you, and a long narrow beam straight ahead. Great on the road, but I wanted something that illuminated more evenly the entire area out front. I also like the look of the unit installed. Its one of those faceted reflector with the smooth, clear lens things. Quality-wise, when I first opened it up, I thought it had been returned and re-sold. The metal parts were oxidized, and there was silver overspray on some places. The bulb, which you should absolutely not touch, was simply in a small, cardboard box (this isn't a sealed beam, its a plastic housing that takes an H4 type bulb). It was cheap, though. If the bulb burns out, I'll order another one from somewhere. To answer your question, yes, I'd buy another one.
