This morning as I was walking out into the garage to get in the car, I noticed a small river of coolant running from my car to the garage door. This was a surprise but not a big deal thanks to my America. I have invested a good sum of money into a full Frank Thomas riding suit and some other winter gear. Well at 7 something this morning with temps around 38F, I was warm as I could be on my way to work. I have commuted more in the last three months with my bike than my car but it was nice just to throw on some gear and go. I don’t know if I am ready to go without a car, but what would normally be a stressful moment turned into a no big thing. Looks like my America will be my transportation for the next couple of days while I fix the leak. The things we have to suffer through, Dean

Very cool! No pun intended.
As long as the temps are above freezing and there is no ice or snow on the road the Speedmaster is my commuter ride.

Mike, the Frank Thomas outfit I have is absolutely the best thing I have bought for my bike. The Jacket is advertised as a 3 in 1. It is water proof, has armor, bright colors, reflective logos and piping. But the best part about it is the Inner jacket and this thing that comes with it that you ware around you neck and lower jaw area. The inner jacket can be worn by it’s self and even has places for the armor! So you can ride with the both jackets and when the day warms up, you just change over the armor into the lighter jacket. However, there is much less protection from the inner jacket. I really don’t know how cold it would have to be for me not to ride. I have ridden in 35F and I was very comfortable. I haven’t checked the waterproof part yet and it is very heavy jacket.

As for the pant, I just bought what matched the jacket. It completely zip’s together to make a complete unit. The pant also has the armor and basic same features as the jacket. This link below has the same name but my pant has pockets like cargo pants. Maybe this is the 07 line up.

As you might notice, this is not your normal cruiser attire. I don’t like the cruiser look and I don’t try look like something I am not. I guess when I buy gear, I look for what gives me the most protection, visibility and comfort. However, I agree that leather is the best when it comes to protection and I will eventually find a leather jacket that suits my taste. But for cold weather riding, I really like this outfit. Dean

Normal cruiser attire.... what exactly is that?

I agree with you it's what comfy and has protection that matters - especially at this time of year and I salute you and anyone else still riding in the cold.

But then riding in the cold is perhaps why I have a chest infection...

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

PLEASE clean up the anti-freeze and don't let your pets anywhere near it. It (evidently) tastes great to them, but it will either kill them or add a giant vet bill to your car whoas.

Vwone, Thanks for the links. Cyclegear in my area carries this brand. Looks to be a good bargain if it keeps you as toasty as you stated.
Might have to go shopping.

Hey Mike,

If you get this gear; some links, prices, and a review would be great.

Gina I think he means here the standard "uniform" many American bikers wear. Consisting of leather chaps, vest, leather jacket optional for cold days and boots.
All must be black. Usually seen with large HD patch on back of jacket and vest. If HD patch is worn then HD tee-shirt must be worn also, prefferabley the t-shrt will have some kind of dealer logo from a place you have never been.

Could be wrong but thats how I take it.
