Has anyone every used this service or know anything about it? I was wondering how accesible your computer is to "people" with this service on your machine. The point is everyone is suppose to share MP3files... I downoladed it yesterday, downloaded some songs and then deleted the software until I know more about it.....

Limewire used to be a spam engine that snagged your surfing information and email addy aka. spyware. If you installed it, you prolly didn't get it all off anyhow now. I suggest Spysweeper or other spyware removal to get the rest of it gone now if you want your computer totally clean.

P2P file sharing always carries a risk. 1st you have a 1 in 5000 chance of being snagged by RIAA. Thats not very high. 2nd you have a chance of virus or scripts being downloaded to you by you thinking its music or a movie or whatever. Thats very high. Generally won't hurt you but will hurt your computer meaning fdisk and reload after time.

If you want the free music, programs and movies it will work for you. I hope you have two computers though. One for that stuff and one for real stuff. Once on your machine you should never use that email or do any online banking on it.

Just my opinion. Others here will tell you its anthrax and some will say its fine. I am somewhere in the middle on it.

I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I put lime wire on my computer a couple of years back.... for about five minutes!!!! As soon as I logged on ( literally) I had ten people search my computer. Let me just preface this by saying. I am no computer guru, so I don't know how far into my system they can get. Supposedly, they can only enter your shared folders, but who knows.... not me. Anyhow it felt like getting a doctor's exam in a crowded room... I got the heck out and stayed gone... even clean installed my OS just to make sure.
To me, exchanging music and movies is something you do between friends. And the old adage. that you get nothing for free seems to apply. That said, I know people that have used it for years with minimal problems.... but viruses are pretty rampant amoungst these type sites so why roll those "proverbile dice"..... just my thoughts, hope this helps.... ride safe... Gordon

The P2P programs and sites that are widely known usually aren't a good idea. These days you're better off going with some kind of torrent program. I use Azureus, but the only thing I download these days is the occasional rugby match. The better torrent sites have limited membership, and keep a close eye on virus inducing hackers.

Ive been using it for the past year. Have downloaded well over a thousands songs so far. Im am actually downloading at the moment.

You can block other people from sharing your files. I do that. I am clueless about computers, but my wife is pretty up on these things and she tells me that everything is OK with our computer and nothing bad has happened to it.
