I think after nearly 1500-2000 miles you start feeling the difference.
At least my experience (on the 865cc '05 SM) is not too dissapointing power-wise (practically speaking in terms of daily use and grin factor) even although I also own and ride a very fast race replica as mentioned in previous post (Aprilia Mille 1000cc).
The SM actually brings out the hooligan in me and it (the bike ... er.. and my hooliganism) seems to get stronger as time goes by (I am at roughly 3000 miles right now)
