One of my neighbors is a British fellow. I went to his house for a Christmas party tonight and he had some Branston pickle set out as a condiment for the ham and cheese spread. This stuff is GOOD We never hear much about British foods over here except maybe on sites such as this. He said there's an international market here in LV with an excellent variety of foods from many different countries/cultures. What else have ya'll been keeping secret over there that I might have a go at? (I know about Jaffa Cakes) Oh, and I like Marmite too. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any food that I don't like .

Yuk!!!! I HATE marmite...
That stuff has a love or hate thing. You either love it or hate it. I hate it. Irony is I sent a jar of the stuff to my sis in Oz for Xmas..she loves it and it's soooo expensive overthere (and before an Aussie says it...apparently Vegemite is not the same...)
There's probably loads of stuff that we think of as quite normal that anyone from anywhere else would be amazed at. Just worryingly the only things I can think of right now are haggis and black pudding. Both are made from offal...

Bacon rolls with Worcester sauce!. Has to be proper bacon though, not the incinerated, crispy stuff you get over there (I guess the nearest you would get would be country ham).
That was the one ting that I really missed when I was over there.
Oh yeah, and chocolate (which can be made without having to have peanuts in it!!)

Funny you should mention that .. one of me ol pals from England is coming over in January and the first thing we asked him to get was Branston Pickle! Second was Beef OXO cubes .. not sure if the beef ban has been lifted? Oh well, I'm sure customs will let him know Oh, and did you know you can get English teabags from Safeway! They taste "almost" perfect! Mole

There is a couple of shops local to me where i can get a hole bunch of English stuff. Marmite, Hob Nobbs, McVities Choclate Digestives, Curly Wurlys, Robinsons Lemon Curd, PG Tipps, Cadburys Cream Eggs, to name just the sweet stuff. Quote:

Absolutley NOT.....nothing like country ham. Canadian Bacon is a bit closer to what your talking about. I wish i could find somewhere that does Danish Bacon. I found a place once but you had to buy it in bulk...not a real problem, but you had to eat it before it went bad.....i had bacon sarnies for days and days and days. Did nothing for my wasteline.
I would like to find somewhere that did good Steak and Kidney pies and pork pies as well. Still looking.

Can you not ask your relatives over here to send you some Fray Bentos S & K pies? Not the best I know, but better than nothing! Mind you, not sure if meat products are allowed to be imported without a license?

There are some issues with importing meat here. All to do with that Mad Cow breakout in the UK a few years ago.
Dont know if this is true or not but I heard a while ago, that any one who has been to the UK in the last five years is not allowed to donate blood over here. Dont know why, moo mad cows moo have had moo no moo influence moo over mooo me,

I've been in the USA since 1999, and was told I cannot donate blood seeing as I was in England during the 80's! Nothing wrong with my green blood ... pull the udder one! Mole

I know ONE THING....The TWO times I ordered what was LOOSELY called a STEAK in London, at what is known as those Aberdeen "Steak" Houses over there(some 20 years apart in duration BTW...I thought I'd give 'em a second chance...boy what a dummy I AM)...I got one large piece of GRISSLE that if I could have somehow transported it home to my dogs in California, they would have probably looked up at me with a "you expect me to EAT THIS look"! Hell, EVEN the SIZZLER restaurant chain here in the States WOULDN'T try to PASS OFF to a unsuspecting public a steak like the Brits are apparently accustomed to!!! (now I know why those poor Limeys over there always boiled the crap out of everything, eat the cow's internal organs(YUCK), and/or put it all inside a friggin'...er...bloody PIE!!!) I guess THAT'S why they call it a NEW York steak, huh?! Your Proud AMERICAN Carnivore, Dwight (my "patriotic" motto..."DAMN the colesterol! Full speed ahead")
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

AYE, now steady on there. You can say what ever you like about Brit Steaks and any other kind of brit food, but you leave our pies alone.
Pie Pie Pie Pie pie, mmmm, mmmm. Beef pies, chicken pies, mince, apple, cherry....any kind of pie. Mash it up and put gravy or custard on it.......Oh boy, it dont get much better than that.
MMM, MMMM, MMMMMMMMMMMM
Oh and btw. Apple Pie and Ice Cream......naaaaah
Apple Pie and Custard YEEEEESSSSS !!!!!!!!!

What the h_ll is offal? and is it awful? I actually find that just about any food is good for me, with a few notable exceptions. I don't like spice cake (although I don't really know why, it smells good). I can't stand gingerbread, and I'm not very fond of three bean salad. Other than that, I'm good to go with just about any other food, including sushi, pate, chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers, liver and eggplant! Oh I forgot, I can't stand fruitcake. I wish someone would just eat it so it would go away!

Innards. You know, the stuff we make weenies out of. BTW, haggis is considered a sausage for classification purposes. Maybe eat it with some Branston Pickle .

Offal is the organs like Liver, kidneys, stomach etc. Yeah, some people eat cows stomachs!!
It's known as tripe over here and the thought of it makes me queasy!! About the only one that I will eat is kidney (in a steak & kidney pie (or pudding, which has suet in place of pastry)
