My third grade son got first place on his first science project ever! Now he gets to go to the county wide competition in January. He was so excited that he could hardly contain himself. He picked McDonalds for his reward dinner out (surprise, surprise) and his Mom and I picked Starbucks for dessert (also no surprise!) I hope this gets him started on a great science future. His two sisters are science geeks too (spoken in a very proud way!) One is taking high school math and science (in 7th grade) and the other is working on her Doctorate in Geology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The 7th grader just made it to the State competition with her Lego Robotics team. Her team was awarded the trophy for the most innovative robot design (over twenty other teams in the competition. Now they get to compete at the State Finals at Florida Tech. My son built an electromagnet and measured it's effectiveness for his project. It was alot of fun and he learned about magnetism and how it relates to the earths magnetic field.

Ok, I've crowed enough for one night, but it sure was fun!

Oh, the Triumph related news for the night. After the award ceremony, another local dad came up to me and asked me what kind of Triumph I rode. (I was wearing my paddock jacket). I told him I rode an America and he told me he just got a Speedmaster. I told him how cool I thought that was and then asked him if he was a member of the forum here. He said he wasn't and I told him the website and suggested that it was the best place going for America and Speedmaster owners. Maybe he'll look in! I told him about the upcoming rally too. I was so excited about my kid that I cut the conversation a little short, but maybe he'll look in here. I'm sure I'll see him at other school functions in the future so maybe we will be able to hit the road together sometime. I even forgot to ask what color his bike was! Of course, it was a Speedmaster so I secretly was gloating that I still had the best looking bike around. Still, I was glad to know that another Triumph was stalking the Harleys on the local roads!

Okay Randy! You're not tellin' us everything, are you?! Like the fact that NONE of the proud parents of these obviously GIFTED STUDENTS were sporting any Harley gear.

But then again, now that I think about it, that was probably A GIVEN anyway, wasn't it?!

So...never mind!

Cheers,
Dwight
(you guys should know by know that I NEVER let an opportunity to tweak the noses of the Harley crowd pass without SOME smarta$$ comment, don't cha?)

(oh, and BTW Randy....You're a good dad....Keep up the good work!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Congratulations Randy,

You & your wife should be proud. I've always said, people who generally get down on kids of today are hanging around the wrong crowd. I'm grateful to be "grown up" and not having to compete with some of these young people.

I've heard Missoula is a nice place to raise a family.

The most difficult and challenging thing in life anyone will ever do is to raise a family. I have 3 boys of my own and even if sometimes they can get the best of you they pull something like this off. I know how proud you must be and I'm sure they are also proud of you for supporting them.

Red,
I hope my applause for your son can be heard from this far away.
Well done!

Always good to hear about kids getting into science and math! Watch out, engineering degrees are expensive
