What? QPD? That darned Dink put a belt drive on without telling anyone? What a weanie!

So, I gots it all on the night before leaving fro Georgia, tweak it in nice (took a zillion pix and will post pages) and hit the road. 3000+ miles later, tight as she should be, clean, smooth, nice! It appears to feel like about a 17.5 tooth sprocket. 5k=90mph. Zoom zoom zoom
I like it, more to follow...

Hey Dinqua ...
Is that a "real" 90mph at 5000rpm or an "indicated" 90mph ?

Dinqua,

I have been considering the belt drive for quite some time now.
Your opinion/experience would be extremely valuable (and expensive, given I also got the TBike pipes based on your evaluation). .
And NO! I am not getting the big bore kit, I already have the 865cc engine!
Seriously now, I would be very interested in your evaluation of the pros and cons and any other troubleshooting/installation tips you may very kindly be able to furnish us with.

Bedouin,
So far there are no problems at all. I have about 3000 miles on it now and have only adjusted it once after the initial install. It has not stretched any at all, even under some pretty decent torque going on.
It is about the same feel as the 18 tooth sprocket and gets me 40-45mpg at indicated 80-90 mph.
It feels a lot smoother and is tons quieter than the chain, but with the Tpipes I didn't hear the chain much anyway.
It is a very nicely made product too, very good metal and will last a lifetime I am sure.
The install was pretty easy actually, when I get my stuff together i will post a how-to page with the pix I took. It is no harder than pulling your rear wheel. Don't let the swingarm removal sweat ya, it's a snap with a bucket and a 2x4.

I've removed cats from my yard with a bucket and a 2x4, but never removed bike parts that way... This I gotta see!

Minor curiosity only, does anybody know the difference in weight between 2 steel sprockets and a 112 link 525 chain, versus yonder pulleys and belt?? Just curious.

I would say the weight is pretty close. The belt drive pulleys are pretty beefy with some weight to them. But so is the chain and the sprockets I have stashed away in a plastic bag. A wash I would guess.

Thanks for that indulgence, really appreciate it. Does seem like a nice set-up in the visual sense. Are you leaving the front sprocket cover off to show the pulley??

Now, how can I justify the cost to my 'financial consultant'?

Pat,
You're always on the bleeding edge of technology. Making everyone drool over your recent purchase is uncalled for and down right nasty.

For the love of god man!! have you no mercy. I want one bad.

Dinqua,

Many thanks for info, sounds promising.

The bucket part I understand ... the 2x4 I'm afraid I don't, perhaps my English doesn't stretch that far (or arithmetic)

The mileage you mentioned at those speeds seems pretty good, I take it's the ratio/lower RPM's that are responsible for the improvement?

Given that I also have the SM (865cc version) how does the belt feel compared to the standard 16 tooth sprocket?
I know you said it feels like an 18 tooth sprocket, but does it lose much in terms of initial acceleration from standing (I am sure it is an improvement at highway speeds)?

Again many thanks.

Bonnyusa,
Try making it sound like a medical issue. Faint a couple of times, act depressed and make like it would be good for your mental health. Depending on the quality of the performance the "motherly instincts" come out to the rescue.

Manipulating so and so!... who me???

Even better, stagger in and collapse on the floor from the "toxic fumes" every time you spray the chain. Then you will have to get the belt conversion to save your family and the whole bleeding universe from toxic polution.

A "2x4" (2 inches by 4 inches) is reference to wood, a board, or piece of lumber, of varying length; but approximately 50mm x 100mm in height and width.

Mike,
The picture is while I was doing the work, the chrome chain guard and the sprocket cover went back on right after this picture was taken. They all fit fine with no mods required.

Bedouin,
I never tried the big bore with a 16 sprocket. I have been running the 18 for over a year, I even sent my 16 off to Pete the gimp down in Maryland last year.
It is smoother on the highway though.
Accelleration is not an issue, in fact it will go from a dead stop in second gear, accidently did that once and it took right off.

Cool deal, just curious. Like I said, looks very nice visually, and it seems to be well engineered!

I'll be making this swap at some point. I'd like to see you're write up and pics on the install.
