Having been an emt I can offer proof in the riders I have peeled off the streets.
Last spring I was at a bike shop and a man, maybe in his 50's walked in and said to the guy at the counter; "don't you have novelty helmets, I don't want to look stupid". There I am with my full face in hand. He asks if that is my Triumph outside. He then says "I won't wear a helmet like that, it's not cool". I responded "I gave up on looking cool when I grew up".
Now I am not saying anything about peoples choice, I still wear a pot on my head sometimes in the warm months but NOT because of the "cool factor". That is just a rediculous reason for a helmet choice.
