Have you removed the AI and backed the idle mix screws out? I don't know that this will stop the popping, but it would seem those who've done it don't have the problem. Basic skill level will work.
If you need it, do a search on idle mix as it's been described many times. Same with the AI removal.
Although... I don't know if anyone's done it with the new engine.
