Is the Speedmaster seat designed to allow for 2 up riding?

Let's say reasonably comfortable for a small girl (5 foot 2) on the back on a short ride (45 minutes or so). Just want to make sure it not completely unsafe and uncomfortable before I buy one.

45 mins to an hour should not be a problem, much more than that - somebody could get cranky!
With that being said, my wife, gotta love her, rode from chicago to niagara on the stock seat! With minimal complaints! But we did take alot long breaks every 100mi or so.

Not without adding a sissy bar or without wearing a T-shirt that sez, 'If you can read this, the b*tch fell off.' The stock speedy seat is equivelent to a rumble seat on a 30's roadster, only less comfortable and safe. Take a long look at it, and ask yourself, 'Would I want to ride on the back of that seat?' You'll have yer answer...

It can be done - But don't do that to a woman you have any respect for. That thing hurts my wife just walking past it.

If you had bought an America, you wouldn't have these problems. I've found the saddle very comfortable, even more so with age, for long rides and my wife says the pillion with the tall sissybar is quite comfy. The stock seats are one the the things that really sold me on the America, plus I really like laced wheels.

One thing neat about a pillion is that you can remove it and have a cool looking solo bike - with a comfortable seat!

I've had my son on the back for a couple short hops. He weighs about 140lbs and was fine with it, but if you plan to do a lot of 2 up, buy a different seat. I plan to set mine up for solo, so will have short sissy bar and luggage rack (both Triumph) for sale soon. Send me a PM if interested.

Ah, that's my point, Bob. With a SM you pretty much have a cool looking solo bike with a comfortable seat - and you never have to remove that little 'pillow'
Oh, and whomever said their 140 lb. son had little problems - According to my inside sources - There are 3 - there is a bit of an anatomical difference between us male and female folk. Seems the pelvic bone structure just ain't all that compatable with the skinny, slant away design of the SM - Hell that may even be were the whole S&M idea came from. But like I said before - Don't expect anyone you have feelings for to spend any serious time on that SM seat.

Definitely!! Mind you, it was only for about 30 miles tops, he was 16 at the time, and thrilled just to be there  .
I'm sure his bony butt would have started getting uncomfortable with an hour or so back there  .

It's designed for a passenger about as much as your typical sportbike setup. After seeing a a short women, must have been 5' 2", riding pillion on a 2005 Speed Triple, she still had her knees up around her chest. Looked like she was practicing some weird Kama Sutra position.
But you can pick up used America stock seats for not much cash if you're patient. Either here in the classifieds, or on ebay. I have 2 pillion pads I paid $20 and $25 for, and 2 solo seats for around $40-50.

The stock gunfighter seat helps promote over the oounter hemmorhoid medications if used with a passenger for very long.
Its a pain in the keister so to speak.

Check out the Triumph website. Seat options. According to them, my "Gunfighter" is actually a "Roadster". Unless they have the pictures mixed up on the website, the "Roadster" is the one showing to have the strap across the seat in front of the pillion. The "Gunfighter" has no strap? Have they changed the seats? The brochures from 2003-2004 touted the "Gunfighter" seat on the Speedmaster, so that's what I thought I had.  Whatever. I like the one I have a lot. Of course I ride solo, so the pillion does not matter.

Yeah, for any successful relationship, you'll want to get the touring seat and sissy bar. The stock seat is OK for very short rides only.

250 mile journey, wife had me stopping every 60miles.i went on the back no way mate.im getting the touring seat from triumph and custom footrest hangers.

I have the touring seat and have not had any complaints from any passengers with it yet.

I have both the stock gunfighter and the touring seat.
The gunfighter is better for strapping a backpack over.
I put on the touring on the few occasions I carry a passenger.
