Funny lately I've had "city of New Orleans" stuck firmly in my head...on a ride last sunday I was singing out loud (very poorly but loudly) and it will not leave my tiny little brain.....

And BEFORE anybody (mert) chimes in I KNOW it's NOT Arlo's song...but I do like his rendition

Feels good, old and grey,no different from 30 years ago,
A wise man said to me once,
Men that go bald from the front are great thinkers,
Men that go bald from the back are great lovers,
But men that go bald from the front and the back only think they are great lovers.........

Damn that brought back some memories...
If I remember the words correctly...

You can get anything you want, at Alice’s restaurant
(excepting Alice)
You can get anything you want… at Alice’s restaurant.
Just walk right up it’s around the back, just a half mile from the railroad tracks
And you can get anything you want, at Alice’s restaurant..

Don't know if thats right but what the hell...

Now I gotta dig out the old LP and listen to it...

Not to disagree, but the "Essential" Steve Goodman also sang a fine rendition of that tune.

Alice is certainly a hot babe, but I always had a thing for Grace Slick, unfortunately the feeling wasn't mutual .

Begs the question. Why is it, back in the 60's, 30's music was ancient, but in the 2,000's, 60's/early 70's music is still cool? Just asking - hey it's Happy hour . Not as Happy as the 60's, but pretty good

Always remember when you are playing the guitar while riding the wind is greater on the box side than on the neck side.

AD NAUSEUM???!!!! That Practicly SACRALIGE!!

Hows this then...

Ridin' on the City of New Orleans
Illinois Central, Monday mornin' rail
15 cars & 15 restless riders
Three conductors, 25 sacks of mail

All along the southbound odyssey the train pulls out of Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms & fields
Passin' graves that have no name, freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of rusted automobiles

Good mornin' America, how are you?
Don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans
I'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done

Dealin' cards with the old men in the club car
Penny a point, ain't no one keepin' score
Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle
And feel the wheels rumblin' neath the floor

And the sons of Pullman porters & the sons of engineers
Ride their fathers' magic carpets made of steel
Mothers with their babes asleep, rockin' to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel

Good mornin' America, how are you?
Say don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans.
I'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done.

Night time on the City of New Orleans
Changin' cars in Memphis, Tennessee
Halfway home, we'll be there by mornin'
Thru the Mississippi darkness rollin' down to the sea

But all the towns and people seem to fade into a bad dream
And the steel rail still ain't heard the news
The conductor sings his songs again
"The passengers will please refrain:
This train got the disappea rin' railroad blues

Good night America, how are you?
Say don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans.
I'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done.

Off topic, but Bob Dylan was in my head today- this is one that always makes me get all teary and soft-

Forever Young

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

"May your song always be sung"- how cool is that??

I'm pretty sure that Steve Goodman wrote that song.

Very cool...1000 yrs from now "Classical Scholars" will be studying Dylan along with some other greats and trying to figure out just WTF they were talking about.

God willing...they'll still be listening to Dylan on a regular basis in 1000 years.

Alices Restaurant is a Thanksgiving tradition in my house. WFIT will play a special version Arlo did about 30 years after the original at Noon, Thanksgiving Day. Best played at high volume, with a beer in hand singing along!!
My buddy and I at work are always refering to the 'Group W' bench, and it's so amazing how many people don't have a clue....
Just another example of "Blind Justice"...

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?
