It's arrived, and not in bad time either!

After 9 weeks my new Corbin saddle and backrest have arrived. Picked it up from the local dealer on way home from work and I have to say, it's looking nice!

We had a 'bash' at fitting it at the dealer's but the rear bracket on the saddle doesn't fit onto the existing bolt screwed on the fender. The dealer suggested we unscrew the fender bolt and replace it over the Corbin bracket. I must admit I got a bit nervous at this point as I still couldn't see it fitting, so current saddle went back on to 'tweety' and my good Lady took the Corbin home in the car. Having read a few of the earlier posts ref Corbin saddles, I think I'll take this easy and avoid the frustration. New day tomorrow and a different light may reveal all.....

when my Corbin arrived... I took off the Corbin mount bracket and put on the stock chrome one from my stock saddle. I had coax (bend) the bracket wee bit... but she fits great, now.

Thanks for that Mikey. Unfortunately both my existing saddles (stock and tourer) have riveted brackets with the pull cord on so I doubt if they will work. The more I muse about this one, the more I think the dealer may be right. Still don't like the idea though, it would make a hell of a job to get the saddle back off again. Should be fun!

I just got mine too, I am thinking I will enlarge the slot in the front pillion bracket and the hole in the back bracket to get it to fit rather than fiddling around with brackets etc...

I would go for a larger hole on the back bracket as well Benny, but there just isn't enough plate available.
Spoke with Gus @ Corbin earlier, and just sent him a few photos. Hopefully he'll come back and tell me I'm a grade 1 Plonker which will be fine if it's a quick fix and the grey matter is at fault. At least I'll get to use the new saddle for this weekend's ride out to Weston-Super-Mere. It would be just my luck to get that far and for it to chuck it down with rain.....I just love the British weather!

9 weeks, thats nothing I waited 4 bloody months,it arrived just as the snow was clearing so again just at the right time.I also had a problem with the Corbin bracket so I just took the old one from the Triumph saddle and every thing worked and I can still get the old pillion pad on with a push when I need it also

Stewe, is your Corbin seat a solo? I think the seat config on the TBA is slightly different to the SM (might be wrong here?) which uses a pull lead to release the seat from a holding stud. This may well be the root of the problem...

Primo,
I may be nutso here, but you do know you have to remove that post from the fender that the pullcord latch hooks onto. There is a threaded hole under it that a bolt goes into to hold the solo saddle or the Corbin. Also, the Triumph solo seat and probably the SM seat have a coating of rubber under the mounting bracket. If you check the Corbin you will probably find it doesn't. You need to cushion that somehow so it doeasn't chew up the paint on the fender....

Many thanks for that, especially the cushion bit. I can see where you're going and I plead stupidity on the grounds of, er? well, pure stupidity I suppose! As you can guess, Corbin didn't supply a bolt or instructions and being more of a consumer than a mechanic, my lateral thinking is somewhat constrained (buying too many Honda parts will do this to you ).

So, if I can get my hands on a bolt with the right size thread on, this will get the solo seat sorted. Only problem will be fixing the front of the Triumph pad as this has a bracket that slides over the post and pulls back before screwing tight at the back of the pad. I'll get there in the end. Biggest problem at the moment is looking at the seat sitting in the spare room, it looks really nice. Oh, what sweet torture we bring upon ourselves.....

The seat configuration is no different, brute force helps, yes it is a solo seat,is yours?if it is just change the brackets over, pissed me off that after paying so much for a saddle and it didn't fit but with a little inginuaty of taking the old bracket....South Wales is a beautiful country,I was there in 1990 at Margam park, over looking Porthcawl,a Sealed Knot do

It was my experience that the Corbin mount bracket will not allow the Triumph pillion to fit. There is not enough "depth" for the pillion bracket to slip over the stepped bolt. Others have said they were able to do it, but I wasn't. I ended up swapping the bracket from my Triumph solo/rider seat to the Corbin and everything was tickey-boo after that.
Your results may vary....

BTW, I sent Corbin an email also... never heard a word back from them.....

I've got my Triumph pillion on with the Corbin solo seat. It's a massive beeeyatch to get it on but it can be done.

I guess I'm lucky.... I had none of these problems!! I simply took off the old & put on the new... using the Corbin-supplied seat bolt (specially slotted for the rear pillion).

drop her in gear before you start pushing that pillion on else you can roll her off the stand.

Good point Jethro666. I didn't see that one. That could well save a mountain of heartache, my thks for that.

Corbin have responded to email but nothing constructive yet. I have just emailed back to them requesting a slotted bolt (thks to BonnyBeemer). This would fit the bill perfectly so I live in hope....

Just got my corbin pillion on today. I noticed that the little notch in the front bracket was just too narrow to fit on my seat bolt. Rather than replacing my spiffy union jack engraved bolt, I opened up the slit a tad with my dremel. Fits great now.

My job and my kid are enough to make me think I'm losing my mind, but when I see these posts saying "It worked for me!" I really start to worry!
Just to elaborate, I ended up removing my bracket from my Triumph seat and putting it on the Corbin. Just for giggles, I took the Corbin bracket and set it against the pillion bracket and there is no way on this earth that the holes would line up - the Corbin bracket was too "shallow".

Now many suggest Dremels and reamers and other weapons of mass destruction, but by jingo, when you pay that kind of money for a plain black leather solo seat for a motorcycle the damm thing should fit like a glove. I didn't get a bolt with mine either..
Although there is a vast improvement over stock, I am now finding, as Moe posted in another thread, that the front of this seat is wearing into the paint on my tank.

These things, plus the un-answered email, means Corbin will probably never see any more of my money......
