I have a co-worker who needs to unload his Honda CB1000 1994, 13K Miles.

He is asking $2500 a pretty good deal. It rides great and runs even better.

My question is since I want a second sportier bike and would prefer a Sprint ST, Should I buy this bike and next year flip it and get the sprint or just wait?

I'd see what it would bring in trade.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

The CB 1000 (big brother to the 900) has an errie resemblance to a Triumph. I have owned two 900 Custom's and tehy were great bikes. Last one I had a couple of years ago, gave up the ghost with some 35k on it, studs started pulling out of the block. Sld it in pieces on eBay, made $4000! Still have a few items left! But that was then and this is now...what you do? That is is a good price if it is in real nice shape. But I wouldn't expect to make a killing on it on a re-sale, you'll likely get that or maybe a little more. Seen them go as high as $3200 on eBay.
