OK, OK... I know it took a long time to get this posted, but bear with me. My computer is still locked away in storage so I am having to bum online time from my parents system. And it's dial up. And they don't like the phone being tied up. Do the math! Rather that take days to re-post everything on here, I put up a blog on myspace.com. So if anyone is even remotlely interested, here is the link... Clicky Lots of pictures. Just make sure you go to Big Trip II... The Recap Part I to get the whole story.

Hey Deuce, bummer about the dial-up..You should get mom & pop to go to satellite. It's a lot better than what they've got. By the way, I have a myspace page too. It's Amylee50 Lots of pics too. AmyLee

Considering how long The Lincoln is I didn't ride a whole bunch of it, but what I did ride was pretty cool. I thought it was interesting that although I didn't plan on riding The Lincoln, it kept showing up through out the trip. Route 66 on the other hand I have been planning for years, so it was finally good to get out and run it. I would not however recommend riding either solo. There are times when you will be 50 miles or so from ANYTHING. If I had broken down (on a Triumph? Please!) I would have been screwed. 100+ degrees out, no cell service and a road not often traveled on could be deadly. There were a few sections in Nevada, Arizona and California that for over 100 miles I didn't see a single car.
I am planning on doing it again in May/Juneish of 2008. Not sure what the itinery is just yet because I'm not sure what coast I will be living on at the time. It will likely be Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, Highway 1 up to San Francisco, then The Lincoln all the way to New Jersey.
Should be fun!

Thanks for the story, I glanced at it last night, but got sidetracked by the Packer debacle in Seattle. Now that winter appears to be settling in for real, I'll read it more thoroughly .
"Summer" seems like a lifetime ago .

Deuce,
Thanks for the great write-up and pictures. Also many thanks for the ideas on places to visit when I finally tour the US. Good Man!
(P.S. I know how long these write-ups can take, I am still trying to finish one since mid-September)

There are so many cool, wonderful and just plain wierd places to see here in the U.S. I'm sure you'll find many more to see! Even out on the super slab I-80 I came across dozens of places that were worth a look. But Route 66 was king! It's kinda cool when you open a book about The Mother Road and tell yourself, "I was there" over and over again. I can't wait to do it again!

That's what I said when looking at your pics of Illinois and Indiana. Great pics/story though I haven't made it through all of them yet - myspace is blocked at work.

I was in the perfect position to do the trip this year. It took three false starts and having to move before the stars were in proper alingment. I'm hoping that next go around I get as lucky. No job, no place to live, put my crap in storage and hit the road!

I am stuck in the time/money continuum. When I have the money, no time. When I have the time, no money. It's all part of being a happy homeowner. I just wish my wife and family could get beyond this food and shelter obsession they have...
