i am proud to be a cracker, people that were born in the great state of Fl. before 1960 are all proud to be crackers. there is nothing derogitory about being a FLORIDA cracker!!!!! but for somebody...say...from...oh maybe okiehoma or maybe arkansauce it might be taken derogatorily.
Crackers in the state of Fl. were cattlemen, they would drive the cattle thru the palms, scrubs, and outer banks of the swamp region, and down river for shipment to the islands with whips that would crack...hence the term cracker. very tough work in 1920.
