Three things about loud pipes:
Loud pipes make young, punk-a$$ kids move off the d%#n road.
Loud pipes keep pedestrians from stepping out in front of you.
Loud pipes drown out rap music.

If you are asking who Ice Cube is. He's just another rapper. Kinda glad you never heard of him, that means his garbage is being contained within our shores. And not further sullying Americas image.

Rap's been around for a long time. I understand the genre was stolen from the good old boys down south. It used to be called square dancing.
I apologize for the hijack. Loud pipes, save lives.

Ice Cube hasn't made any new music in a while, but he was pretty good in the movie "Friday" actually. Good funny movie. No oscar winner, but entertaining anyway. As for rap being music, I'll save you guys the rationalization, but suffice it to say it has strayed a LONG way from how it started which was guys "talking" over actual music. Not all music has to have singing in it... Anyone hear of "Classical Gas"? Sorry, music minor in college, had to spew. And also let me say if people ask me what I listen to I usually say "Anything but rap or country" so it's not like I like it!

Don't even get me started on modern country Actually there are a few "rap" or hip-hip acts I have seen on TV that actually employ a backing band instead of just a drum machine. Some interesting grooves if you can get past the lyrics. Drummers are musicians too remember!!

Beg to differ there Benny. Some of the best music I've experienced can be labeled as modern country (recently released country music). If you're talking about that country pop crossover crap (Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw), couldn't agree more with you.

Yeah I hear what could count as country on WFUV sometimes and it is OK. Not my thing, but at least musically good. I like more towards the bluegrass or folk side of things. The country pop stuff.... it's like an ok pop song with an annoying twang and the requisite countryfied instruments in it. It's almost like musac.
Maybe the fat boys lost weight?

Ya know its funny I think you proved my point even more. Like "modern pop country" has strayed from its roots so much, so has modern hip hop. There is still good stuff out there, just not in the mainstream.

Its all relative .....music that is. What passes as a true melody for one is nothing more than pure noise to another.
Country music certainly fullfils the melodic litmus test. At times RAP certainly does not in terms of what a classic melody infers. I.E Melody, harmoney and rythm. Country has those three in spades as do jazz, piano, classical music and most atypical pop music.
Rap to me has rythm and some rhyming (poetic) but often lacks what we classically call harmony and melody. I think at times there are exceptions to this but by and large RAP does not always meet the requirements of what is considered music in terms of the three aforementioned.
Rap certainly has enough rythm to inspire Hip hop dance but that dance is strictly rythmic and does not necessarily involve movement to a specific reasononably repeatable melodic phrase involving steps on beat. You hear the rythm of RAP as opposed to hearing a defined clear cut rise and fall melodic, harmonic, rythmic BEAT that is associated with country, jazz, et al.
Just my .02 cents

It did sorta wander on a bit (the thread) now did it not? Interesting though.
What would a set of pipes that sounded like Al Jolson be like?

To me it is just weird that the music that is so popular is lacking in so many of those areas. Most of the country pop stuff sounds like Song A; form 2, rinse repeat, ya know? Sure it has melody, etc, but so unoriginal.. Same with the popular rap, boring... Gotta dig for anything interesting. And yes we strayed big time. But I'm gonna bring it back around, ready? At least you can hear those sub-woofers coming

I cannot say if loud pipes save lives but it cannot hurt. One thing I did notice though is if there is a car or bike chasing dog it alerts them in advacne so they can try to nip at your heals. Once I almost hit a dog trying to chase me. Dennis
