If anyone doesnt know it I am huge 007 fan So I went to see the new movie Dang I loves it it was gritty action packed I did miss the smart comeback lines but back to basics was a great thing on this movie. It is one of the few Bonds that actually might of read the book it was based on. When my biggest flaw was saying dang thats a short 007 then it must of been a fun ride

Spoilers???
Well, don't worry Phil.
I hear that Aston-Martin o' his in THIS movie doesn't have any o' those superfluous "boy-racer" ground-effect parts attached to it. (unlike that Lotus/submarine in one of the old Roger Moore editions o' this franchise)

Well worth it. Went to see the 10:30 showing last night, and didn't get home till after 1 and it was worht it!! I loved the earlier Bond movies, because of the locations (like Monte Carlo), naturally the Astons (that will be my 1 vice, should I hit the lotto, to hell with Ferrari, it will be an Aston or Bentley that oozes style and quality like an overfilled creme filled donut!!). This one was definitely true to the earliest Bond films, and I enjoyed EVERY minute, well except the one part which most males in the audience will find or did find EXCRUCIATING, but I won't say more!

Oh come on!
I can't imagine ANYTHING in THAT regard more "excruciating" than a certain time when "the first"(and best)007 was tied spread-eagle to a conveyor belt with a laser beam moving ever closer by the minute to his...ahem...MANHOOD, and asking of the villain if there were perhaps some information that he may be after in some regard.........
"Do you 'shpect me to tawk?"(how's THAT for a Connery impression, HUH?!)
"No, Mr.Bond. I EXPECT you to DIE!"
Cheers, Dwight (yeah, I know...my Gert Frobe needs a little work)

Ah, I get it now, Chris.
It's kind'a like comparin' Hitchcock's shower scene in "Psycho", where if you really look closely, Norman Bates' knife never is shown actually coming into contact with Miss Leigh's skin....and then comparing that to what is evident on the movie screens today by directors(and a modern public apparently hungry for the most gore possible) of the same genre.
Am I close here?
Cheers,
Dwight

Why is it that in so many movies the villain comes up with some wild diabolical way for the hero to die and then LEAVES? Why wouldn't they want to SEE him dead?
I guess the answer is that it would make movies too short, or the hero must live, or is it that the audience has to see the hero overcome the perils and the villain?
Maybe all the writers grew up reading comic books like me and are stuck with the "Batman conumdrum".

I love Bond movies but I have to wonder; a country that can train a man to confront all danger and come out the victor, pick up the most beautiful women, and equipt him with the most technological devices and they still can't build a LandRover(new vehicle) that will last for more than six(6) months without having something go wrong, and the buyer having to keep going back for the same problem time and time again ......Angelis

I too am a big 007 Fan. Loved the old ones with Sean Connery, even liked Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. After seeing the previews, I wasn't even going to see this one but after your review Stern, I now will. I just loved te comebacks of Sean Conery so if it is true to the old movies I will be there. I just made a deal with my 15 year old son who said he would go with me, if I went to see "Borat" with him.

Great movie. Saw it this afternoon. My only gripe is that it was PG-13, not R. Still, smart action-packed movie. Very contemporary. Not at all campy but still has that trademark wry 007 humor.

Best line in that movie is when the girl takes off on him after he saves her and he says "this never happened to the other fellow."

I was just making a crack about the non-originality of even the Jeeps lately I'll take a wrangler over a GC, even a Liberty. The Hemi would be nice, but I wouldn't get an SUV for it's street performance... I want to climb mountaints!
Go see Borat!! Fun for the whole family.

I got it then. How about a Jeep Wrangler with the Rubicon package? Has locking axles add a winch and you could go anywhere.

Oh believe me I know! Been salivating over one for years now. I am fine without most of the rubicon stuff, but those axles are what I want. Suspension is easy to mod, I don't really want to tear into the pumpkins.

Oh geez!!! NOW you've "done did it", Angelis!!!!
It was BAD ENOUGH that this thread about 007 somehow and in some way morphed into various treatises concerning the relative merits of JEEPS, but NOW you'll have EVERY Mopar nut around here ENRAGED!
AND...Clovis New Mexico ISN'T THAT FAR from Broken Arrow Oklahoma, ya know!!! Just east on I-40 a few hundred miles, if I recall rightly.
Well, don't worry TOO much. Maybe Greybeard won't see what you wrote here.

I saw it last weekend and wow!! I loved it, I'd have to say Daniel Craig has become one of the top Bond's already. And the friend that went with me? She loved the "chair" scene with him in it. She tells me her and all of the girls at work just can't stop talking about him.
It looks like the franchise will continue. I sure liked it better than the first Casino Royale with David Niven and Woody Allen as James Bond Jr.

Hey Dwight, I loved my Dodge Charger with the 440 Magnum and '69 RoadRunner with the 383. But Chryslers in general s#%k. That's why you won't see James Bond driving one.....BTW for the rest of you guys the best Bond was Mr. Bean. .......Angelis

Aw come on Fred. Give Chryslers a break. I had 2 GC's a '94 and a 99' and never had a problem. I took my Hunter green 94 GC 4x4 every where. From rock crawling in Colorado to getting stuck in a boggy field here in OK.(my fault). I was amazed at where they would take me. The 99 had the new(then) 4.7 liter V-8 and I would get 20mpg on the Hwy. The 94 had the old reliable 318 V-8 that was used from snow cats to marine applications for 25 years or so. And the newer ones with Daimler influence, have better quality control then ever before.... Oh yeah my favorite Bond is still Sean Connery. I bet Bond would drive a Viper.. Oops, I'd better be careful you carry a gun...

Hey Fred, I had a Liberty for a couple years for work. Never had a problem other than a few O2 sensors going. I've got my eye on that new FJ cruiser tho... For about the same money as a fairly loaded wrangler, I can get something just as capable, save for maybe a Rubi.

Just got back from seeing it. He is certainly the most athletic Bond so far! Awesome action. The "story" and "twists" could have used a little work, but all in all I liked it! Awesome cars. Could have used a little more seat time in the DBS tho

Benny, I saw it on Friday night. That Aston-Martin DBS was indeed a beautiful piece of machinery and what a sexy sound (drool)! Pity it only featured for about one minute (driving).
P.S. I have a V12 engined car, I wonder if I changed the pipes if I'll get the same sound ... Sceptres or Thunderbikes .. hmm? .

I LOVE the modern Astons!!! So what V12 do you have? I think there's a little cam and intake involved in that noise too
Sometimes the new Bond's profile made him look like a Simpson character

It's an 850 BMW bought in the late 90's as a tool for my numerous (read somewhere between 50-70, I lost count) long-distance work-related journeys up and down Europe and into Turkey (ok, ok, that's my excuse, I pretty much fancied it too ... ).
Its sound is very tame though, when compared to the Aston-Martin.

this is the truth i swear, i went to school with a guy names James Bond. i know some of you wont believe me but he is in the michael moore movie Roger and me, and when he is in flint mi. there is a scene where he is talking with James on James's front porch. he has all kinds of stuff with 007 ie: coffee mug, belt buckle, and all thru the house there is 007 stuff. we were all born long before 007 was james bond so his parents wernt being funny or anything like that, like i knew a girl once her name was sandy beech hahahaha but james's parents just named him james never knowing that name would become quite popular.
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

If you get a big Jeep, get the hemi, or at least a V8. I have a Liberty, does ok, but pulling a bike trailer, my milage drops from 20-25 to 10-12 mpg. At worst, going uphill in the Rockies, 7-8 mpg, at best 15-17 on level ground (like Nebraska or Kansas)... But my little Jeepie weighs 2 tons stock anyway. My next whatevers is going to have some real pulling power! And 4WD! Mary
