Hi all

thinking of fitting slide carbs to my SM - but what about the throttle position sensor. I understand that the throttle position alters the ignition timing - what effect would fitting carbs with no provision for TPS have on the performance?

Regards

Jan

Not that much, my CRS carbs have no provision for Throttle Position Sensors, from my understanding, their only true benefit is making slight retard / advance changes to your timing to help beat emissions. I think my dealership just completely removed the TPS from the wiring harness, there are definitly more than a couple of extra prongs hanging out in there. In the end run, you may lose a degree or two of advance, but nothing you'll lose sleep over.

As I understand it, the TPS only affects timing on idle and right off idle by 1-2 degrees. It ain't necessary.

Talking to South Bay about their performance carbs they say to fix the position sensors fully open and tuck them under the tank. You don't want to leave them in the closed throttle posiiton.
