Leave PLENTY of room between you and the vehicle in front of you. If he straddles a road gator or a pothole or whatever, you need time to react. Don't ride in blind spots. Wait for the vehicle in front of you to pass to the point where you have room, then nail it and get by as fast as you can.
700+ miles per week, combined slab and street, these are the two most common hazards I see. (plenty of less common, but this'll do for now)
