Well even if it is 3-4 grand for just the motor/tranny, you'd still have to have other items for the motor to run. Like coils, an alternator, an ignitor box, to name a few. Those can be very expensive. I believe ignitor boxes from the dealer are at least $300 if not more. Nope, I'd still stick with buying a used bike if I were you. You could also sell the parts you don't need from the used bike to offset the cost of your project.
