I want to move my turn signals on the back of my speedmaster to the side and replace them with bullets. I have seen some customs on this site that have done this and it looks beautiful. When rewiring the new lights I want to make sure to do a clean job of it, making it very much like the stock set up. Does anyone know what kind of clips are used for the wiring on the stock signals and where I can get them?

Thank you

Some of the factory clips may be tack welded to the fender.

Perhaps these style might work with some 2 part epoxy to lock them to the mounting surface.

I think what most people did was replace the rear most fender strut bolt with a hollow one and wire thru that. I think Kuryakyn sells the appropriate stud for it.

That is good advice and will help me out when dealing with holding the wires to the fender but what I was referring to was the wire clips (I don’t know much about electric so I might be using the term “clips” wrong). The part where the wire harnesses meets the light. There is a black clip so that you can disconnect the light from the harness. I would like to use this same method with my new lights so they would not be just soldered to the wire harness. I don’t know where to get those clips or what they are actually even called.

Oh ok I gocha. I have mini bullets, and they came with pigtail wires on them. No clips, just some wires. I clipped the connectors off the stock wires and soldered them onto the pigtails so I plugged them in.

You can probably go to radio shack or some other electrical suppy store and get some connectors. I definitley prefer connectors to hard wiring (soldering) in case I change my mind later on.

The connectors on the standard lights are a "mini spade lug" type and have positive and negative wires. The silver bullets have a single wire with no connector, and are earthed through their bodies, however the earth connection inside the light can be disconnected and you can put a seperate earth wire on instead if you need/want to.

If I understand you correctly you want to completely remove the standard turn signals from the number plate mount, and have the silver bullets mounted on the sides of the rear fender? If so you can use the fender as an earth and just connect the bullet's wire to the bike's positive wire. I used "scotchlock" connectors to connect the wires (which preserves the original connector without forcing you to find a matching one for the bullet) and hid them behind the number plate, and insulated the original connectors with heatshrink tubing so they couldn't accidentally short out against the number plate etc.

If you're planning on doing it this way there's two different types of silver bullets. One has the wire coming out of the body behind the mounting bolt, and the other has a larger hollow mounting bolt with the wire exiting there. Using that larger one will allow you to keep the wiring hidden under the rear fender. You'll also want to purchase the "metric adapter kit" as this'll let you do a neater mount. Finish it off by finding some dome-head bolts to fill the original turn signal mounting holes in the number plate mount. (You can either paint them black or get chrome ones to match your mount as required.)

I'm not at home right now, but if you want I can post pics of mine when I get back.

Are they LED lights? They might be a bit more particular about LED earths.

Ah so yes they are grashopper. Come to think of it, I forget if it was the signals or the hollow bolt kits I got, but one of them came with rubber washers, I presume so you don't ground the housings...
