Anybody out there know much about Ducati's? I've found an ST4 for a good price...don't know about all that maintenance though...valve adjustment every 6K. Any input will help.

a friend od mines brother has one. monster 7something. baught it last year breand new and hasnt had any problems. runs good. i have heard horror stories about these bikes breaking to. and hard to get parts to fix them if they need to go into service. hope i didnt ruin it for you lol if you have the money and like the bike then go for it

Learn to do your own valve adjustments and they're fine. Pay for it, and it's going to add up if you ride it much.

This is everything I know about Ducati
1. I want one
2. I want it to be red
3. Any attempt to bring home another motorcycle will jeopardize my marital status.
4. If I hit the Lottery I'll take my chances on the marital status issue - The first senseless purchase I make following that big lottery winning will be that red Ducati.

I agree, I'd love to have the Monster S4R, or failing that, a Monster S2R; the S2R comes in a yellow / black that would really complement the Speedmaster. And the S2R is a good, solid, Air-Cooled Engine. Power isn't everything!!!

Almost afraid to ask... what's a good price on an ST4?
I've read the valve maintenance is overstated, but then, who else uses Desmo drive? Mechanically, I've heard they're unmatched by any springs once you get over about 18-20k rpm.
And, hey, if it's not Ducati FM Red, how can you tell it's really a Duc?

I love the new Ducati ' Dream Machines' with the L-twin configuration. I am drooling over the Sport 1000, still a Desmo Drive though.

But isnt that what makes them so alluring.

I guess I am a Masochist, I owned not one, but two Fiat 850 spiders. They were a blast to play with but were always breakind down and overheating. Finally gave up and traded them in on a 66' 911 Porsche. Now that was a car.

Ferraris are nice, of course, but my all-time favorite sports car is the D Type Jag. It is among the most beautiful things to ever roll on wheels.

There's even one for sale right now here in the Phoenix area. And me without lottery winnings.....sigh.

A mate of mine used to own a Ducati. He loved it, but traded it in for a Suzuki because the sevicing costs were so high. Minor every 4000 miles, major every 8000 miles and he said it was a £500 and 4 or 5 day job for the major (that may just have been a bad dealer of course).

Talking of Aston Martins - some years ago I was working in Newport Pagnell (where they build, or used to build, them). The factory was on both sides of the road, and the guys used to mount the unpainted bodies onto a trolley and push it across the road to the paintshop, then push the painted body back across the road!

That is an understatement....but I must confess. As much as I love all things Ferrari, My true love and passion is the Jaguar, any Jaguar. From the SS100 to the latest Ford based X-Type. There is something very special about them. One day I will have a E Type parked next to the Bonnie.
