OK so this won't work on bikes, but for the average-speed cameras that they've started using over here, the best way to cheat them is.........

To change lanes.

Yep that's it.
And the reason they won't work on bikes.....cos they're front facing camera, so as we don't have plates on the front, they don't know who we are anyway!
Just to prove I'm not making it up... here's a link to today's article in the Sun

We don't have cameras yet, but our troopers are switching from radar to laser guns to catch us. You would think they would simply use a gun to determine speed instead of average speed for those cameras. We also have airplanes measuring speed from the air using marks on the road surface and they radio the trooper in the car.

THE SUN!!!

Well that's as good as etched in stone then!

MUST be true if it's in The Sun

Would be kind of interesting though ... someone go down the M1 between junctions 10 and 6a and try it, would ya? Ta.
Let us know in a couple of weeks if the fine comes through.

I do miss the Sun. It is hard to keep abreast of all the goings on in the world, both Politically, Economically and Socially with out my daily copy of The Sun.

Did you notice that little pun there, Keep A-breast. Clever aye?

I worked on a site that was shared between Lucas Group Computing, Lucas automotive and Lucas Aerospace. When Lucas was split up, CSC got the Computing and Telecoms and Varity got Automotive and Aerospace. These later went to TRW and Northrop Grummond respectively.

TRW were testing face recognition technology 5 years ago on access to and from the site, without informing anyone. As I was aware of what they were doing, I always made a point of putting the sun visor down in the car, and putting my hand over my mouth and chin when I drove in and out of the car park.

After a while they stopped automaticlly lifting the barrier to let me past so I had to stop. Although they didn't say so, it was because the system rejected my car because they couldn't match it with a 'face'.

Then they sent an email around saying that there had been some car crime and we had to re-register our cars with security and make sure that the security officer could 'clearly see the drivers face' when approaching the gatehouse, (which just happened to be between the 'stereo' cameras !)

My parting shot was a halloween mask - the one that looks like Mr Burns from the Simpsons. When I didn't wear it, e.g when there wasn't a queue at the barrier so I didn't have time to put it on so I covered my face, the barrier stayed down and I got the personal attention of the security man. When I wore the mask the wasn't a problem. At that point CSC moved off the site so my protest came to an end.

So Mr Burns will get the fine and points when I get flashed !

Now, given the current controversy over muslim women wearing veils over their faces and thus unrecognisable, I think cross-dressing might be an option when they introduce the the face recognition speed cameras, er - strictly as an scientific experiment and legitimate protest I might add - and er ...only the head an shoulders..... no stocking and garters....or lingerie or anything like that ......no sireebob...nothin wrong with me in that department...:o :

Seriously though, it's not just the speed cameras that are collecting the information. Photos for a variety of other reasons are being fed into the system and it would be naive of me to assume that I have avoided them matching my car to my face.

Big brother has been watching us for a looooong time !

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Why on earth would you need a guinea pig(read: sucker) to research this for you, Adey?

Just the other day, I thought you said you had your "own personal test track facility" over there for those occasions when you want to..."open 'er up to see what she can do"!!!(that new Sprint ST o' yours, that is)

Back when the The Wall was still up, I took a tour of East Berlin when I was stationed in Frankfurt. After seeing all the cameras on top of the buildings "spying" on the populace, I was glad they didn't have THAT sort of thing in the USA.

Oh, how times have changed. Now there are cameras everywhere, and I would hazard to guess that we are subject to having a video shot of us more often than our former communist counterparts were.

I was watching a documentry on the descovery channel not so long ago and they were highlighting the fact that the Metropolitan Police, AKA, London Police, are now in a position where every street in the West End of London is now covered with CCTV. Forinstance, They can track a shoplifter on Oxford Street and track him all the way to Picadilly some 8 or 9 blocks away and that person never be out of their sight.

I guess Big Brother has good and bad points.

Which brings me to another topic, somewhat related.

How many of you have played on the Google Earth program. This is a computer program that has mapped out the entire planted with saterlites. it is brilliant. you can zoom in all the way from space. I find once you get past about 350 feet the image becomes a bit blurred. Makes you wonder, if the general public has access to programs like this, imagine what the military has at there disposal. Maybe the rumour i heard that the military can use saterlite to look over your shoulder read the newspaper you are reading is true.

OH......some people...

It wsa in a the Motoring section. The only bit of the Sun I actually read. And tend to have thoughts about believing.... but I am fickle at times. They even have a biker section.

And no it doesn't surprise me that that's how the thread has gone with hindsight...

Just wait, it's going to get worse after the governmnet mandates those gps devices in our vehicles. If we get them here in Oregon, you now it will be only a few minutes until you guys get them in Washington.

Let them put whatever they want to in cars... I'm just going to defeat it like I do all the other "safety" features.

There is a CCTV camera for every 14 UK citizens. An average Londoner is filmed by over 300 cameras every day. The police now want access to the Congestion charge cameras that film 24 x 7 - even when the charge doesn't apply. They use special software that looks for 'unusual behaviour' i.e. a person waiting by a cashpoint but not using it. They intend to use high powered directional mics to pick up individual coversations in the street. And they also want to bring freedom and democracy to the middle east......

Hmmmmm... Big Brother in th U.K. but freedom in the Middle East? Maybe they (and we in the U.S. - especially in the Northwest) should practice at home first.
