I worked on a site that was shared between Lucas Group Computing, Lucas automotive and Lucas Aerospace. When Lucas was split up, CSC got the Computing and Telecoms and Varity got Automotive and Aerospace. These later went to TRW and Northrop Grummond respectively.
TRW were testing face recognition technology 5 years ago on access to and from the site, without informing anyone. As I was aware of what they were doing, I always made a point of putting the sun visor down in the car, and putting my hand over my mouth and chin when I drove in and out of the car park.
After a while they stopped automaticlly lifting the barrier to let me past so I had to stop. Although they didn't say so, it was because the system rejected my car because they couldn't match it with a 'face'.
Then they sent an email around saying that there had been some car crime and we had to re-register our cars with security and make sure that the security officer could 'clearly see the drivers face' when approaching the gatehouse, (which just happened to be between the 'stereo' cameras !)
My parting shot was a halloween mask - the one that looks like Mr Burns from the Simpsons. When I didn't wear it, e.g when there wasn't a queue at the barrier so I didn't have time to put it on so I covered my face, the barrier stayed down and I got the personal attention of the security man. When I wore the mask the wasn't a problem. At that point CSC moved off the site so my protest came to an end.
So Mr Burns will get the fine and points when I get flashed !
Now, given the current controversy over muslim women wearing veils over their faces and thus unrecognisable, I think cross-dressing might be an option when they introduce the the face recognition speed cameras, er - strictly as an scientific experiment and legitimate protest I might add - and er ...only the head an shoulders..... no stocking and garters....or lingerie or anything like that ......no sireebob...nothin wrong with me in that department...:o :

Seriously though, it's not just the speed cameras that are collecting the information. Photos for a variety of other reasons are being fed into the system and it would be naive of me to assume that I have avoided them matching my car to my face.
Big brother has been watching us for a looooong time !
