Many many many have done airbox modification by cuting out the bottom inside of the box (inside the filter area only) and there are instructions all over here.
Also you can remove the whole box and go with the Freak Kit over at Newspedmaster.com. thats straight up K&N pod filters with the necessary brackets to keep some of the stray stock parts on your bike.
