Been meaning on sharing this & finally got 'round to it...
So here's the deal... I slept at my girls place & woke up one sunday morning needing to get to my trk & home to get ready for the Bears game. As I'm walkin down the alley I see a GSX'r layin on it's side right at the junction of the alley & the street. Hate to say it but I've seen this kinda thing before, where someone parks their bike on the street & some drunk goes to turn into the alley, misjudges & clips the bike sending it to the ground. I happened to have my camera on me & started to take a few pics....

Then I get up, still feelin sorry for the owner of the bike I start to make my way across the street where I had parked my truck. First thing I see is what I thought was some kind of flyer stuck under my wipers, which is a pet peeve of mine. As if it rains out the paper ends up stickin & can be a bit of a pain to clean. As my eyes are then redirected to the front end of my truck & I'm standing there in disbelief....

well as it turns out the "flyer" was actually a police report. The guy whom I just had pity for had been the same @#$@# to smack into my truck.

I hate to say it but a majority of folks who ride those bikes.....well let's just say they give all bikers a bad rap & take their own lives & the girls on the back & pedestrians etc... in their hands every time the jump on & ride, recklessly.

Judging by the bike & the address on the report I figured someone at my work would know the guy. Between my co-worker & my brother being a copper this is what happened....
from co-worker, he knows the bike but not the owner personally & that Saturday night had seen the guy at the drag races (illegal street) when he was leavin at 1am.

from my brother reading the full report, @ 3am, said motorcycle had accelerated to a high rate of speed, lost control, hit a parked car (guess who's)& was then sent air born & take to the hospital.

The guy lived but had no insurance, no license, the tags on the bike were about 5 yrs expired & to top it all off.... his BAC 0.244!!!! the limit here in IL is 0.08

So the truck is drivable & I can only guess by the angles & such he was already on his was down when he hit my truck & was launched into the street as had he, personally, hit the truck dead on I'd imagine I'd get a nice face print on my windshield.....

I finally made it to the game, had sky box tickets, & watched the bears win.. so the day ended ok, for me anyway.

know a guy that just wrecked a crotch rocket while doing a wheelie down a main street here in kingman - messed him up pretty bad since his only protection was a helmet. Fortunately he didn't hurt anyone besides himself - he usually has his girl riding on the back.

I wonder if it would affect your loss runs or premium cost to claim this, and have your insurance carrier subrogate against this mook. Drunk driving, no insurance, license or tags, but enough to have a paint job & fancy bike like that - sounds like this guy has had enough enabling already.

Great idea but the carrier won't subrogate against a guy with no insurance. The legal cost of the suit would excede the damage they pay out on the collision or the Uninsured Motorist loss..

I want to know why the bike is still on the ground. No insurance, it should have been impounded.

Wow that sucks!

I think I would have had to roll the bike into the garage for 'safekeeping'.

Last week, the local HD dealer had a BBQ/poker run/bike stunt show. A couple idiots kept going by on 1 wheel on their silly little rikiracers. I tried to talk the ladies int lining up and flashing them to see if they would crash, but it looks like they don't do that sort of thing around here. (darn)

yeah the bike was in the same spot till I left for the game a little after noon... it was sittin there since 3am! Had it been any other neighborhood that thing wouldn't have made it 15 min after the cops left.

As I told a few friends about it the next & so almost without fail they all replied, "Ya shoulda called me. Me & so&so woulda grabbed the truck & picked it up."

I mean the body, forks & bars woulda been trashed but the engine coulda survived, the fancy chrome swing arm, rear rim... yeah probably enough there to fix my truck with plenty left over.

But on a side note... I've been assured my rates won't change.... we'll see.

Good reminder to make sure we all have uninsured motorist coverage on OUR bike policies. Just read an article of this topic in a local bike rag.
Hope you make out OK with the repairs.

You know, the thought of collecting it up is OK actually doing so is kind of bad karma. But I would not have hesitated to all over it.
