Hi all! I'm new to the post. I'm contemplating a 2006 vs. 2007 Bonneville America and I don't really like the wheels on the 2007. Does anyone know where I can get a front replacement wheel that is spoked? The dealer told me it would be around $500 but that seems expensive? Other than the wheels I like the 2007. If the obvious answer is the dealer, does anyone know how much ot would be to get a new front spoked wheel? Thanks

I know some people here have swapped spokes for the speedmaster wheels, so there should be some spoke rims kicking around. perhaps a post in the classified index.

Thanks

It would be a tire change too. The spoked is tubed and the alloy is tubless. I have a 2005 spoked set here with tires mounted that have 14 miles on them. If you buy the bike we may be able to work out a barter of some sort. They are not light so shipping may be a big ticket.

Consider that when you change to spoke wheels you'll be running on tube type tires. Meaning if you get a flat out on the road your pretty much dead in the water.
Where as with the tubeless tires you can at least plug it and get it back home.

So, are you trying to say that '06s are in short supply so you cant just pick up an '06 instead of an '07?

If you let the air out of 'em, they'll be lighter and cheaper to ship.

I would consider trading my 04 America wheels for the 07 wheels.

Would the new America front wheel work on a 04 Speedmaster and still be able to have the dual discs?

I can get an 06 but I like the black-out finish on the 07 engine. The cast wheels definitely have their good points but they remind me of a Harley dyna or sportster wheel. The New Speedmaster wheels are sharp though.
Thanks

From what I have seen Pics etc, there is no place to attach the second disc/rotor on the new (07) America wheel

I carry a patch kit and a small pump when traveling. Hasn't failed me yet.

It is going to be hard to compare the bikes, since the '07's are not yet available to my knowledge. Better to compare the '06 America to an '06 Speedie with America bars and seat.

In other words, the '07 America has mags, silencers, and engine of '06 speedie.

'06 speedy wheels do not match! Front wheel is gray powdercoat with large spokes. Rear wheel is brushed finish - solid with cutouts. I never could understand why they did that. It's a little thing. Lots of great things about the bike, so no big deal.

They look just like the wheels I saw on a Sportster just the other day.. I'll stick with my spokes..

Are there any magazines that focus on the new generation Triumph's. (vs. the 60" and 70's) I've looked but can't find anything. I just sold my HD 1200 custom Sportster and I would have never bought it if the America was out in 2000.

I carry a plug kit and a pump when I ride my Valkyrie (tubless), but when I'm on the BA I carry my cell phone.

So as best as I can tell they have turned the America into the Speedmaster except for Bars, Paint Schemes and the dual disk up front. I would say at this point there is absolutely no point in buying an America over a Speedy?

I can't believe they dropped the chrome engine parts for the America. These were two distinctive bikes a while ago. I'd say it's a sure bet that one our beloved models will be radically changed in the near future or dropped entirely.

huh? Sure looks like there are chrome parts on the America engine, Just the case and cam cover are black instead of silver:

I agree with your basic assessment though, one of them is going bye-bye. But instead of phasing one out completely, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they used the Speedmaster name for the new 1200cc cruiser. That would be a much more appropriate use for the name.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just in a really bad mood today. It's 70 degrees and I didn't ride my bike today.
