Hi Guys,
Just bought an '06 Speedmaster. I'd like to put the Off Road Slash Cuts from Triumph on, and remove the snorkle from the airbox. Do I really need to jet right now, or can I wait a bit and save up some more money?

Hiya Peter
Fitting TOR pipes won't need re-jetting.
As for removing the snorkel - I've heard mixed reports but I get the impression that you gain very little (if anything) in doing this.

It's at this point everyone who HAS removed the snorkel will hang me out to dry! Such is life.
Also pipe up those who did remove it ... only to put it back in, I know you're out there.

mert(that's "m"ert with a little m) piping in. pulled my snorks and put them back in within a couple of days. bike ran really rough with the snorkles removed. in addition, it ran so hot i thought my seat would catch fire.

there you have it. a snorkleroutterinnerpipingupandout.

You won't have to rejet with the Triumph offroad pipes, but your bike will probably run better if you do. For that matter, it would probably run better with the original pipes if you rejet. These bikes are setup to run extremely lean to make the various governments happy.
I doubt you will gain much with the Triumph pipes by removing the snorkles, but it's free, so give it a try. With more open pipes, ones that you have to rejet if there is to be any hope of the engine running with them, you can gain up to 5 HP by removing the rubber bits.
The whole problems is that there is little point in letting more air into the engine unless you have provided a means for it to get out the other end. While the TOR pipes are more open than the stock ones they are still a bit restrictive, which is why you can use them without rejetting.

Peter-
No you shouldn't have to rejet unless you remove all 4 baffels from the stock slashcut pipes. After the 4th baffel came out of mine, Yep definatly.
Removing the snorkle does give the carbs more air, No Doubt about it, Yank that sucker. You may have to adjust your mixture screws (under the carbs) after you do this because you will need a squirt more fuel in the idle circuit.
Hope this helps.

Spark plugs tell the story. For me (one baffel removed from stock, three 1/2" holes) I removed the bottom half of the snorkel and it was like cutting a dog loose from a chain. Plugs were fine, dealer even checked it out said it was fine. You may end up with pops on decel, that will require twisting the fuel air mix screws Dinqua has the fix for that in tech.

The OTHER snorkels. But only some bikes have them. The 05 and 06 speedmasters don't. They only have the one outer snorkel. But possibly earlier ones and some or all the americas have a couple inner snorkels inside the airbox. The only ones that don't have the inners ones that i know for sure are the last 2 years of the speedy. The rest i can't say which do or don't.

Pull snorkel and back your mixture screws out to compensate. When I first pulled mine, bike ran worse til I tweaked carb. You will get a nice howling sound at WOT too.
