I washed the bike this morning and haven't been able to start it since.....there is no spark...pulled the tank and checked all connections to be sure they were clean and dry, but it's still dead. This happened once before, but after it dried off a bit it I was able to start it. Today, it spent the whole day drying in the sun (it was near 80° and sunny), but still no spark. This ever happen to anyone elses America?

Yes, This has happened to me a few times, after washing it simply doesn't turn over. It sounds like a relay clicks but the starter does nothing.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I did fix mine by push starting it in second gear. Then once started go for a ride and within 10 minutes it is dry and works fine.

I think I will try Vasoline on electrical connections then seal up around the starter motor and see how that works.
One good note is that I have riden my bike in the rain plenty of times and it hasn't missed a beat.

Although vaseline has low conductivity, I would suggest di-electric grease which has no conductivity. Use it on every electrical connection and pack them good. You can even pack your fuse block, coil connections, and sparkplug connectors. anything that connects together and carries current should be greased.
You should never squirt water up under the tank, into the controls, into the back of the headlight bucket, or anywhere near the fuse box.
Michael, you probably have water intrusion and will have to wait for it to dry. Someone who shall remain nameless failed to make it to the GA Rally a couple of years ago because of this. A day later, he was riding again...
You could also point a hair dryer up underneath for awhile. You might have gotten water in the coil connections, the ignitor, etc.

....well, the damned thing started right up this morning....no doubt it will run perfectly right through the winter....yesterday was probably the last summer day up here in new england and the bike was dead!....clean, but dead....I'll take it around the block a few times later today to develope some trust in it once again...

Just think though. Now you can slowly pack di-electric grease in every connector over the winter! Dang water! I'd bet money that she will not give you any more trouble.

Wash sensitive areas are: Coil, relay and igniter connections under the tank. Sidestand position switch. Neutral switch wires. Handlebar run/stop and start switches. Diode pak and wires. (Diode logic circuit that sorts out the neutral, sidestand switches and such)

The whole bike washing thing is highly over-rated. Potato patina is where it's at.
