I'd asked about this in a previous post and this weekend I tried it. As mentioned before, bike was re-jetted months ago after DBA Performance pipes were installed and AI removed. I was asking if I'd have to re-jet again if I removed the snorkel now. Answer is - no ! Removed snorkel completely this weekend. Took her out (gorgeous day up here yesterday) and she ran beautifully. Couldn't tell you I could feel and more HP but she certainly felt more 'open' particularly at higher revs and throttle seemed more responsive, feeling like she was picking up better. No popping. Idle was up a little after she was fully warmed up so adjusted slightly and that was that.

More air, so you could just richen it up a hair by turning the mixture screw if needed. Not enough air for a re-jet though. Correct. Now when you cut the bottom of your airbox out, Maybe, just maybe. That required about a full turn more on the screws and if that puts you past four turns you could go up a main jet size.

Yeah - I think you're right. I'm going to keep an eye it for a while - check plugs etc.
So you reckon my next step is to get the bottom of the airbox out ? I think so - but then I will certainly need to re-jet. To be honest, I'm kinda nervous having not done that before and not wanting to screw up but I do want to be able to do it myself so I'd better take the plunge over the winter and I know I can count on lots of folks here to help me out.
Cheers !

How many turns out are you now? It is fairly easy to change jets. 8mm box wrench and a good flat screwdriver. (if you have a pair of short screwdrivers, you won't have to even pull the carbs) You can get a set of Hex S.S. bolts from Brent, to replace the phillips ones, and getting the bowls off is alot easier in the future. Don't be Welsh He-Man with'em, they will strip that aluminum if your not carefull.

Reido - I couldn't tell you how many turns out I am 'cos I haven't adjusted the carbs myself at all. Pipes and 130 mains were on when I bought it some months ago, AI was out, K&N was in. I removed the snorkel this weekend and went for a ride. She felt great. That's it. Could I adjust all the way in (assuming I'm not already) and then play with a few turns out and test for improvement ? I will re-jet myself when the time is right; I can do it (I think ) ) just nervous, and will certainly switch to Brents bolts when I do. Thanks for the advice man.

All the way in and you will cut off the fuel. Also, you adjust these in 1/4 turn increments so don't just go spinnin' it around a bunch of times. Less than 1 full turn out = go down a jet size. Over 4 full turns out = Go up a jet size. In order to find out you must count how many turns it takes untill the mixture screw bottoms out (NOT TIGHTLY, just untill it seats). Then back them out the same amount of turns, back to where they were. Whala... You now know your settings! http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...mp;page=0#89123 This has info by Greybeard on how to adjust the mixture screws. Also Airbox modification instructions are here too. At 130 mains, I would think you will need to rejet if you do manage to get any more air to the carbs.

Got it. Thanks again man. I'm going to leave as is until I decide to drill out airbox and re-jet but then again, I've started thinking about the whole Freak thing.
