Thanks to the grace of God and extreme determination, I'm back from the 1101 mile 'dega trip. The ride down on Friday started in the rain/showers/mist for a couple of hundred miles, then cleared and got colder and more windy. The ride home last night was through several hundred miles of dense fog in the Tennessee and Virginia mountains. It was the most intense driving I've done lately. I had a blast at the races and am glad to be home.

It's racing. NASCAR's roots are from pushing and shoving. On the last lap, the gloves come off and the last one standing wins. I am a huge fan of Dale Sr. (rumored to have done some pushing and shoving in his day) and also of Jr. Of course, it does matter whether it's your favorite that does the pushing or gets the bad end of the deal. If it's your guy pushing, it's OK. I think Vickers was doing what he should've done and that is to finish as good as possible. I just didn't like the outcome. He didn't make any future allies by taking out two Chase contenders though. I saw a t-shirt caption this weekend that sums racing up. It said, " A second place finish is nature's way of telling you that you suck." I've also heard that you can't wreck what you can't catch. By himself, Johnson couldn't have passed Little E, but with some bump drafting from Vickers, Jr. was a sitting duck and he knew it. Vickers just got carried away in the heat of the battle. Would I have liked to see the fan (and my) favorite win? Certainly, but the sun can't shine every day. Earnhardt was very graceful in the post race interview I thought. All things considered, it was another great weekend at 'dega. Michael Waltrip said this weekend, " Talladega is like Daytona on steroids."
