Hey guys. Well, I got my Tbike pipes installed (and they sound freakin amazing!), and removed the AI but still have some popping on decel. Can someone tell me which screw adjusts the mixture on the carbs so I can richen it up a little? Hopefully that will minimize the popping. Thanks.

This picture is from Dinqua's site. The idle screw is the top most screw in this picture. It is pictured as a flat head, but if you have an '04 it might require the D-tool.

Jason,
The picture Triumphant sent you shows to bowl off. You do not have to remove the bowls to adjust your mix. Remember to gently screw in til it bottoms out, then back it out. From the factory, my right screw was all the way in and my left one was 1.75 turns out.
Enjoy your new pipes!

Hi Jason,
It's been a whole day. How's it running - and tell us about your new pipes.

I haven't gotten to adjust the mixture yet, the wife and two year old keep me hopping. After the new pipes, AI removal and 18 tooth sprocket install it's like a completly diffrent bike. It's AWESOME. The sound is loud but doesn't sound like a Jap bike or a Hardley. The sound is uniquely Triumph. I was riding down the road the other day and passed a group of teenagers and I thought their jaws were going to hit the ground. My wife was driving behind me in her car and noticed the same thing. One thing I have noticed also is that it starts easier and with less choke than before. I don't know if thats because of the AI gone or the new pipes but I like it. My little brother came over last night so of course I had to start it and show off. He's not really a motorcycle nut like I am but his comment was "it sounds real nice and crisp, not like a Harley which sounds kinda sloppy." I couldn't be happier with these pipes. Well worth the money! I guess I'm going to go tinker with the carbs now. The wife and monster just left for the store so I have some free time. I'll let you know how it does after adjusting the carbs. L8R.

Hi Jason,
I am so glad you're happy with your initial setup. Let the tweaking begin!!!
About your two year old: Confess this over her/his life - The TERRIFIC TWOS, not the terrible twos that have plagued so many over the years. This is a wonderful time of learning in their lives, and they push it to the max! Just sit back, observe and enjoy. Just be there when he/she discovers gravity - they always need loving then. Sometimes it takes one fall, sometimes it takes 3 or 4, but like motorcycles, gravity will prevail - always. I am just glad God made their bones like rubber for a few years - He knew they'd be falling down alot.
Next time my bride, 16y.o. daughter(almost 17) and myself go to Nebraska, I'd love to stop in KCMO for a quick front porch visit. I like front porch visits because you don't have to invite anyone inside - and we will need to hit the road so we won't keep you. Is "the old washington street station" still around? If so, what is it now? It was a super ice cream shop last time I stayed there (25 years ago). We just pass through nowadays.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

Your bike has better throughput now. That is, it is exhaling more freely now. When a bike has better aspiration and/or (in your case) better expiration, it will warm up quicker. It wakes up quicker. The removal of the AI had nothing to do with it. The new pipes get the credit.

My rejet and Sceptres put a grin on my face too, so I know how you feel!

I agree with moe - it's the throughput. I did the AI when I first got the bike and it made no difference at all. I noticed that with my air box opened up and everything I've done now, I barely need my choke. When cold, I do use it to get the bike going, but can push it back in after about 15 seconds and it won't kill.

Don't get me wrong, my son is the most amazing kid I have ever seen. He is so smart (his teachers at preschool/daycare think he is gifted) that he just can't seem to get enough of anything. Always wanting to see, touch, hear and learn new things. He is hard to keep up with. By all means if you get to KC let me know. Our porch is always open. We have a great back deck. The Washington Street Station hasn't been around for years. My grandparents used to take me there every year for my birthday when I was a kid. I always wanted to sit in the street car. I have no idea what it is now. Maybe one day when it decides to stop raining I'll ride by just to see. Good excuse to take the bike out, not that it takes much of one.

Back to the bike. I went out yesterday to tinker with the carbs and couldn't see the mixture screws. Am I going to have to take the carbs out to get to them? It always makes me nervous taking something apart when it works fine when I start. If its broken to begin with then I figure what have I got to loose, know what I mean? Anyway, talk to ya later.

You do not have to take the carbs off to adjust the idle mixture screws. You may have to the first time though, as the security caps are a beach. In the picture the idle mixture adjustment screws are up in the tube located center of the pic underneath the rubber dust cap I have installed. Lots of threads discussed the removal of the security caps, so have a peek at the archives. Here are two for ya:
EPA cap removal

Security Caps

The screwdriver in the middle of the pic has had its handle cut off. This is used to turn the air mixture screws while the carbs are on the bike. The picture represents all the tools needed to rejet with the carbs on the bike.

Jason, what year is your bike? If it's an '04, you'll need the D-tool from Brent, or you'll need to do this.

Thanks for the pics, that helps. Mine is an '03 so shouldn't need the D tool. Sorry Brent (love the 18 tooth sprocket that I got from you though).

Jason, you know those 4-in-one screwdrivers that you can pop the bit out and it has a large flat head on one end and a small one on the other? They work awesome for adjusting the screw too. I use the little spring loaded ball to count revolutions, or you can count the flats on the hex. The saw-d off handle works too:) But if you have a 4-in-one aroudn that works too.
