Did you lubricate the rubber seal around the base of the new filter with oil before you put it on? Not doing this is the most common cause of leaks as it causes the seal to pinch and move as you tighten it. Did you overtighten it? You should only need to hand tighten the filter on, don't use a tool to put it on (they're only for removing).
