Heat shrink is OK if you cut the wires. When I moved mine off the bars and down where they belong, the signal wires were bundled with about a dozen other wires. I had to cut the plastic sleeve that wrapped all those wires. I used that same slitted plastic that Krashdragon is talking about. Used heat shrink to cover the soldered splice at the signals. I put rears in the front.
