Just got my (waste of money) AMA magazine today. There is a short blub about Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boormen planning on making another long ride. This time from Scotland to South Africa.

I thought Long Way Round was an excellent documentary. Yeah, anyone can find faults but overall, I really like it. If the new one is half as good as 'Long Way Round', I will buy it. Shoot, they might have even learned something from their first one!

Yeah I thought the first one rocked. If they are making a second I won't hesitate to lay down some cash for it. I've always wanted to do something like that myself though with my limited off road experience (and limited $$$) I'd just wind up being a burden on the local search and rescue services. Anyone on this forum ever take on a x-country enduro bike trip?

Just wanted to say met Ewan Mcgregor when out and about on the bike and he is genuinely nice guy. Being a fellw Scot am a wee bitty biased but he likes older bikes and was really interested in the BA. So another trip best of luck to the guys . Wish it was me going.

I cannot decide whether to be a good example or a horrible warning ! Peace & respect http://www.tomcc.org/gg/ Eric

Yeah I agree, I caught an episode of that when I was back in the States sometime last year. I think they were in Mongolia or somewhere. Great adventure and a good idea to film it.

Scotland to South Africa this time ... that trip kinda reminds me of this kid that came through Valencia when I was stationed out here twenty years ago.
He was on a ride from Athens to Cape town in South Africa and stopped off here for a few days to prep his bike before crossing over to Morocco. He was on a 500-600cc Honda or Yamaha dirt bike.
One morning (I think it was his last here) I watched him drinking a coffee in a cafe while quietly staring across the water to Africa.
He had this look of determination in his eyes that I'll never forget. Couln't help admiring this kid's balls (the size of a tank), taking on such a journey on his own.
We later heard that he was caught and probaly killed by Touregs somewhere in the desert.
After a while some Germans coming back from Africa in a Landrover told us he had been seen alive a lot further south in Nigeria.
For a long time I wondered if that kid (I can't remember his name) ever made it to Cape Town.
Some local guys told me a few months back that he came through here again about 6 years ago on a tour bike (I hadn't retired yet and was stationed in Brussels at the time).
He was remembered by a few guys but the reason he was noticed was because he had this georgeous young Spanish TV celebrity on the back.
I just wish I had been here to ask him about his ride.

Yeah, I would like to see Mcgregor and Boormen do this one, it would also be interesting to sorta see what that kid did back then.

Read Charley Boormans 'Race to Dakar'. There is a vid as well but I haven't seen it - YET.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Thanks for the heads up, I just ordered both.
Counting the days 'til they get here.
