It seems to me that there have been alot of problems lately and some with brand new bikes. I wonder if there is another bad batch of CDI's. In any case, I'm wondering if we will see a pattern if we start tracking CDI replacement.
List your VIN#
Year of bike
Milage
Warranty = y/n

List your VIN# SMT905JN55J224155
Year of bike 2005
Milage currently 6600, first problem occured at 6000
Warranty = y/n yes
I had problems early November, tried everything I could check, finally stopped acting up after removing the connector, cleaning and re-connecting. It went 3 months and 600 miles (winter much less riding) until acting up again this past weekend. It only messed up after continous running for >20 miles with engine hot. My dealer is closed today - I will talk with them tomorrow.

From what I've read it's intermitant firing of one of the cylinders to complete failure to start. Usually after the unit gets hot.

On my bike it was intermittent cut out of the right cylinder one day, and the next day it was constant.

List your VIN# SMT915JN03J169091 Year of bike 2003 (built 01/03) Mileage around 21000 at time of CDI failure (summer 2006, weather was very hot) Warranty = No, but fixed as warranty replacement
I noticed engine cut out momentarily while riding several times over a period of weeks. Then one day I was riding and it suddenly died. Later it started. This happened several times. Dealer first replaced TPS at cost of $200 to me. Not fixed. Dealer then wanted to replace coils. I convinced them to replace CDI. To my surprise, they replaced it under warranty and no cost to me. 3000 miles later and still no problems.
