The more I see the commercials for that Ghostrider movie, the more I want to see it.
I noticed this evening that Peter Fonda is in it. When I was a kid I picked up the comic book often. But I don't remember a whole lot about it. But, if I remember right, Peter Fonda (as Peter fonda) had something to do with the story back then (mid to late 70's). Anyone remember?

That's what trailers are supposed to do. These days so many trailers are so much better than the movies. Hopefully that's not the case with Ghost Rider.

It seems like the type of movie that's entertaining. I wouldn't go to it for the deep plot or suspense. Cool special effects and some great action scenes are my expectations. If I go expecting that I probably won't be disappointed.

Is this not the film by the same people who made "Sin City"
I got a big kick out of Sin City. If this follows suit it will be good.

True. It is based on a comic book after all. I enjoy them but don't take them seriously unless they make me (like Batman Begins - that was hardcore).

Yup ....that one will be a must see. I have an old very old movie about the 300 Spartans circa 1962 somewheres in my collection.
Looking forward to this. I did see a trailer for 300 in our local theater and the image quality looked "awesome" One of the key greats about Sin City was the extraordinary clarity, depth of color saturation and special effects.

Kev,
I thought "Sin City" was very well done too. Really enjoyed it.
But what's this "300" thing anyway???
You can't tell me that a film about some dude bowlin' a perfect game(which with today's bowling ball technology ISN'T that hard anymore) would be THAT entertaining!!!
(I'm tellin' ya...if Don Carter and Dick Webber used today's bowling ball, those dudes would roll a perfect game every freakin' time)
Cheers,
Dwight

"Kingpin" WAS good...you're right Gordon. Which brings to mind another "bowling movie"!
Yep! "The Big Lebowski". Good too!(but then again, almost anything those Coen Bros. do is pretty good, going all the way back to their first film, "Blood Simple".
(though they kind'a faltered with the remake of "The Ladykillers", I think)

Yeah, one of the most strategically fought and impressive battles ever! Seems the Greeks weren't philosophers and inventors only.

OH! So it's a remake of the early '60s movie, "The 300 Spartans"???
All I remember about that flick is the battle scene where the Spartans use their shields to deflect the Persian's arrows and then attack after those Iranians....er....PERSIANS use up all of their artillery.
Richard Egan I think played the hero.
(oh and regarding the "global approval".... ....you'll have to remember that this was WAY before CNN and FOX "News" came onto the scene, subsequently providing instantaneous coverage and analysis being broadcast throughout the world......but I THINK Walter Cronkite of CBS was around then)
Cheers, Dwight ("We now take you to the greek battlefield where our reporter, Thanassis, is waiting to provide our viewers with the details...Take it away T-Man"......)

Iron Man is in production, with Robert Downey Jr playing the lead. Jeff Bridges was just cast but they're keeping his roll quiet right now.
Silver Surfer is in Fantastic Four 2, but there's been no mention of Galactus yet. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/
The new rumor is that Adrian Brody is playing Banner in the Hulk action-oriented franchise reboot.
But I'm not a nerd or anything...

I just remember him being himself in the comic book. Maybe it was a special issue or something. Funny how when you are a kid, there are things you remember, but just dont remember the all the details, just bits and pieces.

Thank you Dwight!
This is Thanassis Bedouinocrates and we have managed to arrange an exclusive interview with King Leonidas just for our CNNN viewers ...
We'll just have to move up the hill a little ... OK here we are!
Well Ladies and Gentlemen, here we have King Leonidas back at his strategic headquarters and he seems to be pretty busy ... er ... playing ... um ... BACKGAMMON!!!
Reporter (Thanassis): "Your Majesty, may I start?"
King Leonidas: "Sure ... "
Reporter: "Your Majesty, how does it feel to go up against the mighty Persian war machine?"
King Leonidas: "Wassat?"
Reporter: "Your Majesty, Xerxes and his troops are disembarking their ships in their hundreds of thousands, are you prepared for such a battle?"
King Leonidas: "Fuggem!"
Reporter: "Um ... Your Majesty, it seems you have marched a long way to get to this location, are your troops weary from the journey and has it made them moody?".
King Leonidas: "Happy... "
Reporter: "Excuse me ... Your Majesty?"
King Leonidas: "Happy ... they're happy!"
Reporter: "Why are they happy ... is it because they will be fighting for their country?"
King Leonidas: "Nah ... they're happy to be away from their wives!"
Reporter: "OH ... but they are facing certain death Your Majesty ... "
King Leonidas: "Yeah we know ... oh dammit!"
Reporter: " Er ... yes Your Majesty?"
King Leonidas: "These dice ... I told these idiots to only use dice made out of ivory ... these wooden one's are rubbish! "
Reporter: "Oh!"
King Leonidas: "Yeah ... they are too big and don't roll too well"
Reporter: "Your Majesty ... "
King Leonidas: "Cut the Your Majesty cr@p willya ... the name's Leo."
Reporter: "Yes Your ... um Leo."
King Leonidas: "That's better!"
Reporter: "Leo, what do you have to say about being so outnumbered by the Persians, there must be over a million out there ..."
King Leonidas: "Cool! It means they've re-allocated troops to this area, allowing our armies to regroup in other areas. That'll pi$$ old Xerxes off big time ... when he finally finds out Ha! "
Reporter: "So Your ... um Leo, you seem to have outmaneuvered the Persians with this tactic".
King Leonidas: "Yeah ... but we ain't done yet".
Reporter: "What will you do if Xerxes asks you to lay down your weapons"
King Leonidas: "We'll just tell him to MOLON LAVE!"
Reporter: " Er ... what does that mean?"
King Leonidas: "It means to GO F... are we live?"
Reporter: "Yes!"
King Leonidas: OK it means to ... COME AND GET THEM!
Reporter: "Oh!"
King Leonidas: "Oh Sh!t! "
Reporter: "What is it? "
King Leonidas: "These friggin dice ... "
Reporter: "Oh ... "
King Leonidas: " ... and I was having such a good game"
Reporter: "Oh ... "
King Leonidas: "Is that all you can say?"
Reporter: "Well I ... "
King Leonidas: "Which channel did you say you were from?"
Reporter: "CNNN ... "
King Leonidas: "You stuttering ... son?"
Reporter: (sweating now) "No ... it's CNNN"
King Leonidas: "Yeah ... what's it mean?"
Reporter: "Umm ... Cripple Nipple News Network, Sir"
King Leonidas: "You been drinking, son?"
Reporter: "Er ... no Sir!"
King Leonidas: "Smoking something?"
Reporter: "No Sir, that the name."
King Leonidas: "Oh ... OK."
Reporter: "Your Maje ... er ... Leo, I think our anchorman Dwight from the studio and his panel of analysts wish to ask you something, do I have your permission?."
King Leonidas: "Yeah sure ... just make it quick ... I wanna get back to the game ..."
Reporter: Thank you Your ... um ... Leo ...
There you have it Ladies and Gentlemen, King Leonidas just before the battle of Thermopylae with the mighty Persian army steadily approaching ...
Over to you and your panel of analysts, Dwight (phew!).
Bedouin.
Blessed are those eyes that have seen more roads than any man! (Homer).

Soren : I went through my Ghost Rider comics of years ago and besides "the Orb" and an assortment of other devilish characters, could not find Mr. Fonda. Fonda was still quite the "biker icon" at the time of Ghost Riders debute even though Easy Rider was more about a drug pusher looking for the meaning of life than a care free biker on an adventure. I have found no character with the likeness of Mr. Fonda in any of the 1st 20 issues of the Ghost Rider comics from Marvel Inc.

Dan,
Thanks for the response. I am not sure at all what I was thinking of then. I must have gotten comics mixed up or something. But you know when you are a kid in the 70's memories do that. So, now I am going to have to do a bunch of googling to figure this out.

Good article about Peter Fonda and his love of motorcycling in the entertainment section of the L.A.Times this morning. It was written by Susan Carpenter, the editor of a free motorcycle magazine published in California named "Friction Zone". She now also writes articles in the Times every wednesday about M/Cs.
In the article, which of course mentions his role in the upcoming movie "Ghostrider", he talks about his early Roger Corman M/C flick, "Wild Angels", making "Easy Rider", and why motorcycling is his passion...his latest love being his MV Agusta F4-1000. He mentions having owned many Triumphs throughout the years too.

300 is not an exact retelling of the battle but a fictionalize version of it. I've got a copy of Frank Miller's graphic novel of it and it is fantastic. They've done the same thing with this film that they did with his Sin City and that is to make the characters look as much like the book versions as possible. It is a great story and I recommend to anyone that they should pick it up and read it. Mr. Miller's work is finally getting some excellent adaptions and it is well deserving.
300 along with Sin City are some of his best work but much of Batman Begins was taken straight from his Batman: Year One storyline. His artwork lends well to adaptation to film since the look is kept not just the premise of the books.
As for Ghost Rider, I was never a fan of the books and don't expect too much from the film but I will see it. There are many books which I would love to see adapted into film if done properly are excellent stories.
