Ok people got a removal kit and , removed the offending piece of useless flesh. repaced the spark plugs and bike ran like a purring cat on a catnip bush. Anyway after the guys sat around discussing if the AI was actually the problem we decided to take it apart , and HEY FRICKIN PRESTO there was the front diaphram from the vacume SPLIT... so we deducted that was in fact the problem.. So all you guys in places where you cannot remove the AI just check the diaphram before giving up all hope and throwing yourselves to the marshmello man.
oh as an after thought check your cush rubbers regulary. they are definately spent after 4-5,000 miles.
And a use for the removed AI unit " Blow gently into the airbox inlet and WOW you get a great tune out of it, it will be sampled and put onto a record, we will sell it market it globally and then watch and wait for the AI gremlins to start stealing every AI kit of every triumph , look out for them they play sweet tunes. laters people FU Mcc England.

I had the same failure. The diaphragm of the AI valve had three cracks in it. The symptoms where: 'chuffing' noise coming from the pipes at idle & extremely lean at 40mph/4th gear.
Problem was, I brought the bike ('03 TBA) in for it's 4K 'check-up'. I told the dealership about the problem (I had already suspected that part). When the service dept. brought the bike to me when they were done, I asked 'so, what did you do about the noise/idle problem?'. The reply was, 'bumped up the idle speed'. So, after looking at the bike and seeing oil spilled over it from the oil-change (come on, can't you at least wipe off the oil before giving a customers bike back?), I said 'thank-you very much' got on my ride, rode off and never went back.
I mustered up the 'stuff' to remove the AIS parts (had Brents kit), and lo-and-behold crackola on the diaphragm. Go figure. So, what does $90/hour at a dealership get you??? A lighter wallet, that's all.

On dealerships the shop i got my bike sold it to me with me thinking it had two years warranty but on closer inspection last week i realised it only had a year , because it had sat in the showroom for a year and had been pre registered , i only got a years warranty so i was a bit peeved to say the least. The good thing about it is i have found out quite a bit about my bike i wouldnt of known. i would like to thank you guys for much of the knowledge i have gained and hopefully will continue to gain after great deal of back reading from this site. Its good to know that this small corner of the World wide Web is dedicated to helping each other out just out of love for motorcycles. Its good to know that bikers aint such a dying breed after all.
