BA Brothers and Sisters;

As this is February, the most useless of all calendar months, guess the first day the temperature hits 50dF in Thompson Falls, Montana this year and win a 6 oz container of Langlitz paste (silicone based) leather dressing.

"Waterproofs, softens, preserves. Not for split or suede leathers. Not a food item, although if you're out of Mayo it aint baad."

I'll keep a legal sheet of screen names & dates at the ready. In the event of a tie, prize goes the person who provides the best bribe. Temperature to be determined by either my patio thermometer or the guy on TV. If I'm out of the area, I'll just make it up. One choice , no redos , no whining , although wine is an acceptable bribe .

Cheers,

JH

Projected weather for Thompson Falls this Tuesday is 39dF! Heck, that's like living in Florida. No murders recorded in Thompson Falls from 2001-200S, very impressive. Population 1300 and change, I'm liking it even more. More woman than men, even better yet! Let me be the one taking temperature! With this freak weather, I'm guessing 1 March.

Freedom,

My guess is that you will have a day where the temp hits 50F within the month of February, say the 20th.

We're a simple, poor country people. Miles from the nearest anything. Long, dark, cold & wet winters, hemmed in by various ridges and mountains. Wild creatures of various size and demeaner appearing on the roadways & city street. And that's just the human migration from the lands of strip malls and fast food. I arrived 18 years ago from a landscape even more forboding and desolate. Nothing to see here, but if you stop by, coffee's on and we can compare notes on 77 vs 76 T-140's.

Can't remember, did I specify a full or empty container??

Arthur, we're ALL trying to figure this site out . Welcome.

The Lions Club in the "Little burg" I grew up in used to drag an old car out onto the millpond, in full view of main street. They'd sell chances, called guesses, predicting when the car would fall through the ice. After the first year, someone figured attaching a cable to the old beater would be a good idea. In winter country you learn to manufacture your own entertainment. Guessing which old guy ice fisherman would drop his shanty through towards the end of the season was also entertaining, but not nearly as lucrative .

Huron South Dakota. Not many folks from Sodak on this site. I was whelped in Belle Fourche...that most ebullient major cow metropolis north of the fringes of the Black hills.

Went to High school in Rapid City ..another major midwestern Metropolis.

I dont miss the winters in those cold forboding places. I do like the metal of the people though. Tough, independent, and hardy folks they are.

You will have fun with your Triumph....sometime in April when things thaw reasonably.

Is Freedom referring to the "mean" temp of 50 or the first time it simply hits 50?

The latter I think.

Nothing. The rules are explicit and non-negotiable, unless I get bored and decide to alter them. It's Thompson Falls not Helena. My house was at 35dF this noon. Although had this valley fog cleared and the sun appeared it would have warmed in a matter of minutes. Besides with the state legislature in Helena you have an unfair climatological advantage.

I'll take Feb 13, although it may now be a moot point. I just checked weather.com and it reports a tropical 52 degrees. Of course, that's probably the reading at Thompson Falls International. It may be different on the official back porch thermometer.

Nope,

thecontestcontinuescelebratefestivus....

You're in Cody. Everyone knows the main street thermometer & weather channel people are "optimistic". FJ moonlights for the chamber of commerce. I think he sets up those webpages with a plus 10 factor in the winter and a minus 10 factor during summer's heat.

Since it snows from Sept to May I'll pick April Fools Day.
And then the next day you'll get 18 inches of snow flurries.
