About 2 or three years ago, there was a story from the USA about a bank robbery where they traced the owner of the getaway truck to a remote farm. When the police turned up, they found the guy shackled to a post with a 'bomb' strapped to his body. He claimed that it was put there by the bank robbers to stop him reporting his vehicle being hijacked.
It went on for, I think, a couple of days as the police were reluctant to go near him in case he blew himself up. I remember seeing some newsreel clip of the incident.
Finally, while the cameras were rolling but focused on the police, there was an explosion and, I assume the guy was killed. I have heard nothing since.
Does anyone know if it was some sort of hoax or what happened ?

I do remember that. (At least your not crazy) I don't rememer what the end was either.

A courier Driver (like a UPS or FedEx) was kidnapped and used in a bank hiest. The bank robbers put a locked exploding ring around his neck. While the bomb squad was trying to diffuse it, the thing went off....never found the robbers or the money.... But yes it did happen, quite sad. Yes the poor guy died in the incident.

The incident occured in Erie, PA. I happened to be in Erie when it occured. I believe The guy who was the victim, was not a delivery truck driver, but may have worked for a pizza shop or similar. He apparently was used by the perps to pull off the heist by placing a bomb around the guy's neck and providing him with a note. The bomb did go off following the robbery. I believe the guy was in the street when the bomb went off. I don't recall any news of those responsible being caught. Maybe someone from upper PA, Ohio, or western NY can shed some light.

Usually when you dont hear anything more it means the cops dont have a clue and so far all the leads have been dead ends.Or they have sombody pegged but not enough proof yet.

Yes,
He was a pizza delivery man. The bomb did blow up and unfortunately killed him. They have not arrested anyone for this yet but Marjorie Diehl is believed to be involved in this. I met her when I was working at the state prison she was incarcerated in. She has quite a history, too. She got convicted for killing her boyfriend and stored him in a freezer. She talked another boyfriend into cutting him up for her but that never actually happened. Very screwed up story.

Yeah ! just wonderin' how to finance some goodies for the BA out of the triumph book. I'd need to rob a bank to pay them prices !

There was a report on the news Friday night which stated that the Fed. prosecuter was about ready to file charges based of a grand jury investigation. I've been waiting all week-end to see what those details were, but no follow-ups were made.
