Hey guys I need some advice on installing the Pingle petcock. It seems that my install is leaking after tearing the gasket and I wanted to know what you guys used to stop your pingle from leaking. I have all of the permatex Gasket makers(Red, Blue, Black, Grey,etc...) but none of them are resistant to gasoline. I made my own gasket from a rubber based sheet of gasket material but it still leaks. I hate to go back to the Triumph petcock. Can someone help........Angelis

Angelis, I too had sealing problems on mine......I wound up cutting my own gasket out of some rubber coated paper material from NAPA. I sanded down the tank sealing area real good and used a product called "SEAL ALL" that was recommended by someone here over a year ago. I found that at NAPA too, but have since seen it at AutoZone. This stuff is great!!!! Not a drop since.

When I bought mine from brent it came with a gasket and some blue tank sealer stuff. Mine hasn't leak a drop with that blue stuff. Tony is correct about the "Seal-All" I've used that in the past with great success.

I, too, used the NAPA gasket paper, and the SEAL-ALL. It did continue to dribble a bit after, but eventually sealed itself. Not a drop since.
Wonder if the heat helped the Seal-All work into place?

I used red RTV and regular gasket paper after the crap that came with the Pingle immediately blew out on install. That was about 2 years ago and it's never leaked.

Seal All - one of the Goop products. Available at Autozone. NAPA also makes a fuel-resistant sealer... Seal All

Thanks guys. I went to the honda dealer(close to home) and purchased a tube of their sealeant(Honda sealeant #4). I have used this in the past and know that it works, plus when it cures, it's like a pliable rubber that's resistant to gasoline. Also I found out that permatex makes an aviation sealeant that is FAA approved. This stuff is good but is for a more permanent installation. Anyway the leak is fixed. Thanks for all of your help.......Angelis

Hivel I thought the same thing. The cheap paper gasket they put in the kit tore before I could install the adapter. Pingle should tape a packet with the rubber gasket to the package with instructions to use that instead of the cheapo gasket.....Angelis

For those that have installed the Pingel petcock, did you install it with the fuel tank on or off of the bike? I got one from Brent and was going to install it tomorrow.

Off. Both times. With the pita bread gasket then again with a home-made garlock gasket and Seal-All.

Take the tank off and of course, drain all the fuel. When I installed mine, I put three 'shop towels' (old, very soft, worn out bath towels) on the bench and because I had drained darn near every drop of fuel and left it sit with the cap off for awhile, I was able to work on the tank with it upside down. When I bought my Pingel, it came with a mounting adaptor that bolted to the tank and then the petcock screwed into the adaptor. I assume the new ones do too? If it comes with a lightweight paper gasket and some blue sealer that goes between the tank and the adaptor, get some proper gasket material, some Seal-All, and do it right. I used what came with the Pingel and it blew out with about 2 lbs. of pressure (followed the instructions to the letter). I ended up using red RTV and some gasket paper and it hasn't leaked (probably 2.5 years) since. I also used teflon tape on the threads.
Let us know how your install goes?

Was going to do a write-up and a picture tonight. I took the tank off, filed the tank hole a little more open. I used the "Seal All" from Advance Auto with the thick paper gasket that came with the kit. However, my K&N gas filter did not come in until last night, so I did not want to put gas in the tank yet. It has been sitting since Tuesday night.
I tried to install the gas filter last night. However, I needed more clamps and I want to reroute it anyways, which I will do when I get home in a couple of hours. I noticed that with 4 wraps of the teflon tape, the petcock lined up like the original. However, having taken out the "hidden fuel filter" and now using the in-line K&N filter, I need to take the Pingle tap back out of the mounting base, use perphaps 5 wraps of teflon tape to cause the petcock output line to face aft rather than inboard, to make room for the gas filter. It will make more sense when I get it done and can post a picture. Thanks for everybody's help.

Got it finished and rode about 20 miles (it is 30 degrees here, and sundown). No leaks. Pingel fuel petcock outlet is facing aft to make room for the K&N fuel filter (part # 81-0241). Petcock threads took 5 wraps of teflon tape to align the outlet aft, and everything worked perfect.

Also, the Pingel petcock that I got from Brent must have been a 6000 series, that has the on/reserve/off aligned for the fuel outlet pointing inward, like the original Triumph valve. But to install an in-line filter like the K&N, the petcock outlet would be better facing aft, like the 4000 series petcocks.
In my picture above, my 6000 series petcock was rotated 90 degrees to face aft, but the off position is now rotated to be inboard, the reserve position is now forward, and on on position is outboard. This is a little awkward, but okay. The 4000 series would have been better.

Yours looks like it fits good. I tried that with the K&N filter first, but its larger diameter just did not let it fit in there without hitting something.

Yeah the diameter reall does make a difference. Mine is a lot longer, so I had to put it far enough down so there was enough hose on either end to make the bend.
