I am waiting for the arrival of a sprocket cover for experimentation. (i.e. customizing) I would like to machine down the horizontal ridges and cut some length from the back end of the cover. I might even attach (weld/rivet) a stainless steel punch dagger to it. Can anyone tell me if this part it aluminum or another alloy of some sort? Also, is the finish just paint or a powder coat? Information appreciated, opinions/ideas accepted. Tali

It is cast aluminium, and the finish is powdercoat.
I am considering doing something similar, but don't have the time at the moment. I think get rid of the ridges as you mentioned, give it a brushed aluminium finish, and then drill 3x holes in the side (25mm, 20mm, 15mm) tapering towards the back......

They should fit, because plenty of people have put the Bonneville T100 cover on their Americas. The Sixty8 cover sure would look good with a black engine!

Some have had to modify the Twoo sprocket cover, some have not. Just lay it on there, if the rear/lower corner hits the frame, it just needs to be notched a little. You'll NEVER see it unless you have the bike on a high lift. It's a 4 minute job for a dremel or grinder.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to either mill down the raised portions or have at it with a grinder. My metal working mentor will advise me which is best. Actually, I was thinking of buying a cover from one of the other bikes but, I decided to take the cheap way. Got an extra cover from ebay for 20 bucks.

Yeah stock America sprocket covers are cheap, worth experimenting! I'd advize milling if you have the means. Maybe strip the coating first? IF you have the means to mill it, it takes some of the guess work out. You could even take off a little, see how it looks, then take off more, etc. One slip of the grinder and yer done.

Check out the new 07 models. The SM has a cut down black upgraded cover, and the America the same in chrome or polished alloy, I cant tell for certain. They look great, too. The George Foreman grille ridges are gone. If you haven't seen them yet, look here

Hey talishar I was the one you bought the sprocket cover from on Ebay. Here's what they look like with no ribs. Also I have some of that Stainless Steel Paint on order. I hope to try it out this week.

Corrupt, That looks good. I'm opting for taking them down almost the whole way and polishing them (the ribs). I thought that it would match the polished cylender fins. I also may take about 2 in. of the back end. My metal working mentor had me rough them down on a 16 in. disk sander. Now I'm going to hand file and polish. I may clear over them to reduce polish time in the future. As soon as I figure out this here computer stuff, I'll post pics. Tali

i just tried that stainless steel paint on mine. It looks like a bar fly at 10am. So I think it's going back to black.

I'd post a picture of it but I don't want the forum crashing.

Last week I done put me in an order for one o' them there NEW 2007 sprocket covers.(under a hundred bucks, BTW)
NOW I can retire my 2002 model piece to the kitchen where it belongs. How do you guys like your burgers?
Also, when I was at the shop ordering the new sprocket cover last week, I saw a new blue and cream colored 2007 America. I liked it a lot and was surprised that I actually kind of liked the new cast wheels.(and I'm usually an "Old School, gotta have SPOKES kind o' guy")
And besided cleaning up the looks of the bike with the new sprocker cover, Triumph FINALLY has gotten rid of those pseudo-retro-toolkit/passenger footpeg holders monstrosities TOO.(one of the first things I did after I bought my BA back in '01 was to remove those....always felt that they drew way too much attention to the eye and away from the beautiful engines these things have)
Cheers, Dwight
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

yeah I noticed the new peg holders too...they don't look half bad...if I used the rear peg position I would get some...but my pass. pegs are mounted to the lower forward bolt so no point...
