I'm looking at having my black side cover (the one with the America sticker on it) painted to match the green on my tank and fenders. I have a friend whose son works at a paint shop and he told me if I can get the paint for him, then he could do the job for $30-40. Is my best bet to go to the dealer where I bought the bike? My dealer's prices are very expensive and I was hoping I could look somewhere else before being raked over the coals. Thanks for any help!

Here's a thread from the archives that may help (did an archive search on 'paint code'):

Do not go to the dealer.
use the link in the post above.
then go to a paint store(not lowes or home depot) ask if they sell auto paint.
use the paint codes from the above link and a good paint store
should get it for you.

Having reshot my rear fender...take my advice and get it done professionally. Painting is tough, expensive and time consuming.

We get our paint from ENGLISH COLOR AND SUPPLY. After being quoted $2,500 to have the custom painted, we invested the money into equipment instead. We painted ours . Not top notch professional quality, but certainly good enough for our standards. Now we can paint more as the equipment is ours and we learn our way around a spray gun. All around, a good investment and learning experience.
